- 'Perhaps not all of us will walk again--but that's okay, because our goal is something more than walking....' Quadriplegic college student and filmmaker Jonathan Sigworth returns to India to tell the tragic and inspiring stories of four of his quadriplegic friends.—Fred Sigworth
- Jonathan Sigworth, a 19-year-old American student, fell from a 70 ft. cliff in northern India in 2006 and became a quadriplegic. Three years later, to encourage his Indian peers, Jonathan made this short film telling his story and the stories of four of his quadriplegic friends. Krishnan, 46, lives in a rehab center in Pune; Navin, 38, is starting a school for street children. Rahul, 23, was defending his uncle from a drunk neighbor when he was injured; Riya, 14, had a diving accident at a swim meet. More than Walking is a film about tragedies and opportunities.
Jonathan had himself introduced Wheelchair Rugby to India a year earlier, and in the film we see Krishnan and Riya learning the sport. Riya's dream is to become a teacher and a sports star, but both she and Rahul have a long road ahead of them. Navin is much further along in his life with paralysis, and he is determined to make a difference in the lives of street children. "If I hadn't had the accident, I would have been a soldier only," says Navin. "Now I am able to do much more."
