Episode 1.1

The Enfant Terrible of British cinema, Ken Russell was lured to his television home of the BBC with this racy adaptation of Lady Chatterley's Lover.

This first episode has class conflict, hidden passion and the after effects of war.

Sir Clifford Chatterley (James Wilby) is paralyzed in World War I, unable to produce an heir. His beautiful wife Connie (Joely Richardson) is left frustrated. Her desires are aroused when she meets gruff gamekeeper, Mellors (Sean Bean.)

In the opening episode Russell knows hot to keep viewers titillated, he has Richardson in full frontal nudity. He wants to make sure they return for the next episode. You also get visual flourishes from Russell as well, a dream sequence with young men displaying flowers as Lady Chatterley is beckoned by her husband to join him in the lake.

This is still a restraint Russell, he knows the medium is television and the morality police will have the knives out.
