- A 19-year-old boy is stabbed on a stormy night. He falls into an overflowing manhole because he can't get help. Balasaraswathi, a traditional Brahmin widow, searches for her son Venu alone in the storm after police fail to assist her. The next day, she is shown her son's dead body by the police. They later reveal that the cause of death was murder.
The investigation begins, and the mother confirms that there are no pre-existing disputes that could have led to the killing. She claims that her son is meek and that she is his only world. The police were unable to track down the killer because the motive for the killing was unknown. The widow, who had never left her house before, visits the police station to learn about the progress of their investigation.
As she becomes more acquainted with the outside world, she gradually gains an understanding of the society's structure. Satyam, his wife, and friends are arguing with a goonda political leader, which she witnesses. She sees him holding the baby while his wife is arrested for the cause of a rape victim.
She decides to fight alone in order to find out why her son was murdered. As her son is not involved in any notoriety or carrying any money, she writes open letters to the murderer(s) in which she asks them what motivated them to commit the murder. This causes uproar in the general public. The crux of the story is how her endeavor brings the reality of life into her house and life, how she realizes those fighting for justice are outdone, how the truth will be suppressed, how an ordinary woman transforms into a social activist, and how she stands for the just cause Satyam has laid his life for.
