That house was gorgeous!

Regarding the movie, it was pretty entertaining. The acting was good and the script was fine. I enjoyed it. The plot was interesting.

Well not the best thriller I ever saw but most surely was not the worst either. I have to say buy the time it ended I was glad I watched it. Yes I will recommend it. James Welch Henderson Arkansas 3/27/22.

For a thriller, I wasn't thrilled!

Olivia loses her Dad to a freak accident and Olivia's mother needs help. She's hearing noises and it gets so bad she falls down the stairs. Enter Jake Winters, your friendly physical therapist. But is Jake the one terrorizing Olivia's mother? You'll have to tune it to find out. It was typical Lifetime fare with nothing special added. Worth a watch!

Perfection, but...

Warning: Spoilers
Although this movie was flawless, it did leave me with a few questions:

1. Has the physical therapist found that throwing his body into a parked car is a good way to meet girls?

2. The movie didn't identify who the 2nd mystery person is--you know, the one who just takes pleasure in turning the shower on and off every 5 minutes.

3. The movie didn't identify who the 3rd mystery person is--you know, the girl who tried to pull the mother into the room before the big accident.

4. The movie didn't identify who the 4th mystery person is--you know, the one who is a cartoon animation and committed the most grizzly murder in the movie.

5. Did the family buy a huge, expensive house and then decide to buy a knock-off Sub-Zero refrigerator that doesn't have a functioning door? Seriously, those refrigerators cost $15,000+ and given the age of the house, I venture to guess that that door would be fully functional if they didn't buy the appliance on the black market.

6. What happened to the millions of dollars in lawsuits? I assume that it is going to be the premise of the sequel "If Google Drive Could Talk". The movie said that they were able to sell their $2 million house and repay the losses, but what about the remaining $150 million in losses? Maybe in the sequel the "#1 Dad" trophy makes a cameo appearance to be shattered by the daughter when she is forced to have her wages garnished for life to repay the sins of her father.

7. Why did the neighbor die? She saw too much? What did she see?!?!? The movie decided to allow us to draw our own conclusions, but I'm out of ideas. Perhaps this will be a movie franchise of its own: "If Agnes Could Talk". It could start in the distant past and delve into why she didn't have her best friends invest her money--inside information, perhaps?

8. What was the significance of the owl? Again, perhaps this will be another movie franchise: "If Owls Could Talk" and it can fill in the gaps of why the father associated owls with death. It must be a riveting and harrowing story that had a profound impact on the father's life if it was on his mind every time he signed into his computer.

9. Is it normal for a guy who jumped into your parked car to show up in your 3rd floor office out of the middle of the nowhere unannounced and for there to be no heightened concern for the family's welfare?

10. What is this so-called "work" that the main character is always up to? I assume it is more important than her mother's existence because she is always refusing to allow her mother to leave the murderous stalker for safety because she has "work to do". This truly must be a trove of information that could be its own franchise as well.

11. Why was the movie so long? It could have eliminated the 2 hour "filler" and trimmed it down to no more than a 5 minute short.

Cornier than usual...

Warning: Spoilers
Olivia has broken up with her boyfriend and ditched grad school. She moves back with her parents, in an older mansion. Her father, some sort of financial advisor/investor, dies when someone leaves the shower running so he slips on the wet floor and hits his head.

Seems like Dear Dad was pocketing people's money rather than investing.

Olivia's mom thinks their house is haunted and wants to leave, but Olivia isn't having it. Eventually the mom gets scared by an arm trying to grab her and falls down the stairs. She's alive but needs PT. She also still wants to get out of the house, but Olivia says no again.

Luckily Olivia hits a guy with her car, and surprise, turns out he is a physical therapist! And a red herring! Enter, Alice, as well, their neighbor and friend of the mom's. She has a bad feeling about the therapist!

The movie moves along with typical Lifetime scenarios inc the nice neighbor getting murdered and the protagonist acting excessively dumb. Olivia gets attacked in the house multiple times herself, but despite advice by the detective and mom, still refuses to leave the house!

The movie ends in typical Lifetime fashion as well, with a chase around the kitchen/house and a blow to the baddie's head! But who is it? Probably the weakest part of the movie.

3 stars for a few Lifetime/MarVista regulars and it does go by quickly. Not the most awful offering, but not very good.

If walls could talk
coltras352 August 2023
After the death of her father, Olivia Garland moves home to help her mother, Rebecca. She becomes concerned about Rebecca's claims of a ghost in the house and wonders if Rebecca is beginning to decline mentally. When Rebecca breaks her hip, Olivia hires health aide Jake Winters, whose patience and warmth seem too good to be true, and when strange things keep happening, Olivia must decide who she can trust and how to keep her and her mother safe.

The above sounds juicy and spooky, and this Lifetime thriller sort of lives up to it with a good build up and tense scenes. It's well-acted, though the woman playing the mother can get into histrionics. Guess it was called for, after all she's hearing and seeing things. There's some fine misdirection in terms who the fiend is, and the lead actress is likeable. It's an enjoyable entry.
