The depth of feeling is impressive, cracking episode.

The community start to hear about the second death, and friends if Gary's arrive in Sherwood to pay their respects.

I'm still in shock after episode two's conclusion, I had to watch it again to prove I didn't imagine it, that really was dramatic.

This third episode is loaded with quality, I'm still getting used to the format of the show, it seems to be defying the usual constraints. It's settled down very well, the acting is first rate, but it's the story that's so compelling, they have truly managed to generate the divides and hate that's been deeply rooted in this community for so long.

I concluded in episode one's review, that this was going to be a six part whodunnit, I think I spoke too soon, we seem to know who, what we don't know is why, it's another identity we're keen to learn.

As two well known faces exit, more pop up, The BBC seemed to have gone all out with this one.

Rushbrook and Manville, Julie and Cath, it doesn't get much better.

8/10.

Episode 3

Warning: Spoilers
Poor pathetic Andy Fisher. How he ever thought he would get away with the murder of his vile daughter in law.

It was a great turn from Adeel Akhtar.

Both DCS St Clair and DI Salisbury probe what dirty tricks were played by the Metropolitan police and the government in the early 1980s.

It was fascinating to see just how raw feelings still are regarding Nottingham former mining communities and Yorkshire ones.

St Clair's shock as he is told that Yorkshire football clubs shouting scab when their clubs play Nottingham Forest.

This might be news to people who do not live in those areas.

The episode saw a guest appearance from Stephen Tompkinson as a NUM official come to play respects to Gary Jackson's family. His presence reopens old wounds.

Warning: Spoilers
Caught up with Episode 3 & think I finally *GET* it now; the story's not really interested in "who done it?"; it lures you in under the guise of an average, stereotypical, cut & paste murder mystery but what it actually does is use the 2 disconnected murders to show how the local community responds; this is a town with deeply entrenched divisions which have been bubbling beneath the surface for decades; each generation inheriting that trauma inflicted in the 80s. Therefore, all it takes is a few sparks to set those tensions off again - reigniting conflict, opening old wounds etc. It's therefore an analysis of the fragility of this peace & an exploration in to the long lasting consequences of political leadership, lensed through the eyes of the common folk - as opposed to politicians / those in Westminster. Feels especially relevant now, in regards to strikes etc.

The series is proving to be a prime example of British excellence. And virtually every member of the acting elite is playing a part somewhere in this story. Keeps the viewer at the edge of the seat. This is the type of production that keeps me paying for Acorn and Britbox. And I LOVE seeing all of my highly favored British acting aces and absorbing more and more of English history in the process. No-one does drama quite like the British that I return to over and over. One of the things that continues to thrill me is that the stars take bit parts when needed to be able to remain in the game. So, they star sometimes and they died early in the action when it serves the production.
