- One Halloween, Ligiea Willard, stem-cell researcher and ex-roommate of Laura Hobson, is killed on her way to a reunion with Laura and another old friend named Ellen Jacoby. Her work attracted protests, and she was about to go public on shady practices at her institute. Psychic Ursula Van Tressell senses the killing and exorcises a house where the three women once lived at its owners' request. The next day, a resident is found slain, and a message on the fridge urges to find Mary Gwilliam, who was also murdered after trying to phone Laura. Mary was a nurse at a mental hospital where another of Laura's roommates--and boyfriend--died. After an unsuccessful attempt to kill Ellen, Lewis, her boyfriend, realizes that Laura has not been honest with him. But is she a killer?—don @ minifie-1
- On Halloween, Lewis and Hathaway investigate the murder of Prof. Ligeia Willard who was conducting controversial stem cell research. She was struck on the back of the head and had a stake driven through the heart.m There was also a bulb of garlic in her mouth. The victim was a good friend of Dr. Laura Hobson, the pathologist and they were in fact supposed to meet for an outing that evening. There is soon a second murder and to Dr. Hobson's shock, it takes place in the house that she, Willard and another friend Ellen Jacoby shared when they were students together. There is the possibility that Willard's employer was purchasing illegal stem cells but a third murder, that of former nurse Mary Gwilliam, sends them off in a completely different direction - one that shows Laura may have a deep, dark secret.—garykmcd
- A friend of Dr Hobson's is murdered. They were college housemates and when a current student is murdered in the house that Dr Hobson and the victim used to share it appears that Dr Hobson is the link between the two crimes.
