Pretty good show but bad adaptation
maatougfares24 November 2021
A very fun show have pretty good action and visuals The atmosphere is very pleasant and faithful to the anime The cast is not well picked in my opinion and here is why John sho as spike is good even if the anime character was not asian, he brings a good comedy touch though Spike was actually more naughty and dark with a deep melancholy Daniela pineda doesn't look or move like Faye but she does an incredible job besides she's gorgeous as hell.

Jet is a perfect cast.

Vicious is not a crazy mad man they got it so wrong he is very calm and composed.

Very cool.

I have watched none of the list of previous Bebop shows before just now finishing the ten episodes of season one. There is a lot I liked about binging this show. I found it clever, compelling, witty. I got into the characters and thought the acting was very good. It's a masup of so many things it's hard to believe how well it was written, edited and came out amazing. From James Bond to westerns to The Mod Squad to Star Wars there was a very creative nostalyand then add crime noir, Gangsters, Mike Hammer, 1920s flappers, jazz, it was all slick, fun and fairly unpredictable.

I'm very picky about TV and actually watch very little of it. But a kept cruising past this Netflix show because I don't like anime. I'm very glad I watched a trailer and gave episode one a go. I hope a second season is in production.

Surprisingly good, if you acknowledge it couldn't be great.

I was a huge fan of the anime when it came out, Bebop and Trigun we're my only dives into the genre before I had to do the adult thing.

I hadn't watched the series well over 15 years, and watching this live action brought back a lot of the same feelings and moods. Funny thing after watching all the episodes I went back through the anime, and I didn't realize how much was changed, I remembered wrong.

But this is to say while certain events may have been altered from the series, its a testament too the live action how well they captured the essence.

The actors portraying Faye and Jet came off in the series exactly as I had remembered their characters to be like. John puts out an admirable effort in playing Spike, but doesn't quite hit all the notes. I don't think it's his lack of range he clearly studied the character of Spike, I think there's just a certain style/energy in the anime format that's impossible to translate into live action.

That said I went in expecting something between meh and disappointment, history has shown adaptions are very rarely good. Either as its own thing or as a true adaption, I think this Bebop did quite well in that respect. Watched on its own its a fantastically stylish break from the usual, and as an adaption it hits the major notes, and the team behind it clearly get's the source material.

8/10 all day. Rarely does a series end and I'm ready to rewatch so soon.

Can't wait for tonight!

Dunno if me and the other reviewer were watching the same short, but as a lifelong Cowboy Bebop fan I thought it was fantastic.

I mean sure, John Cho looks a little too old to play Spike Spiegel, but he nails the spirit completely. I get that the producers want to portray the Bebop crew as seasoned, worn down bounty hunters, and why not? It works, and this doesn't have to be the beginning of their tale like the anime, why can't they be careworn and slightly haggard? Life ain't easy, and takes its toll, so the threadbare styling works. Imagine Star Wars if everything was sparkly and new, it wouldn't be half as effective!

The whole thing premiers in a couple of hours, and I'm cranked up to eleven with anticipation.

If it's as good as this little taster, with the music, the humour, and the chop-sockey ultraviolence, who cares if Spike ain't a twentysomething!

And who doesn't want to see the Bebop, Swordfish, Hammerhead, and The Red tail for real...?!

Announcing the Netflix series in pure grindhouse style
Elvis-Del-Valle2 January 2024
Before this new version of Netflix was released, this little promotional short film was made that is quite random, but interesting. It was made in the form of a grindhouse-style production, like an action film for exploitation cinema. Although it does not have a plot to follow, it is entertaining in its 2 minutes of duration. The production was done quite practically as an independent film and the sweeps make everything jump from one place to another. What does give it quite a bit of energy is the use of the theme song in the opening of the original anime. The Lost Session doesn't have much to salvage because it is only a small look at the Netflix series, but it was a rather curious way to attract the public's attention. My final rating for this short film is a 6/10.

Great adaptation for long time fans
solidgun22 November 2021
I have watched and rewatched this show over the years. And listened to the music. I think some purists are just over criticizing this show. When I watch something, I watch to see how well they have preserved the characters even if they have changed the dynamics. However, in this case I didn't look for the same characters of the anime, but how well it would work if they were real life characters. This is good to watch for the fans. People that may not know the story all that well may not really get the nuances, but the adapted stories work really work well for this.

Film noir Tarantino cool
winterheart7867 December 2021
Loved the Anime series, but I guess I am not one of those people that have to sit and compare anime to this live action. Watching this live action with no bias, just seeing it as a first timer of the lore was imply a great story with cool cinematic elements. The relationship with Spike and Jet is endearing and has a great comedic energy. Throw in Faye and its even more of an "Odd" ball trio. I love how they made the bebop as the fourth main character.

Great dialogue-back and forth, Enjoyable action. For the people calling in woke, I don't see it. Its just reflecting more modern times since the original was made a long time ago.

Overall a great fun stylistic show with great comedic moments and some badassery.

Terrible
tysondawson-2972721 November 2021
Non of the characters are even close. They took a story arch, butchered it, made it less serious, and tried to make it a comedy. I'm super disappointed in this half ass effort. The cast is terrible. It's a completely different story arch to the anime/manga.

Really fun series - don't take it too seriously!
duflucluc3 December 2021
I really enjoyed this series. Brought back a lot of memories of the anime - stayed true to its themes, plots and characters but at the same time brought it to life. Well done to all the actors and directors.

When cast is this bad...
assakam7 November 2021
When cast is this bad even Cowboy BeBop name can't save it.

If it would be some independent work, maybe, but when they claim something as popular and established as CB and can't jump even close to it... sorry, this is just sad parody.

Loved everything about this masterpiece. From casting music, and sets to filming, effects, story, and acting everything was spot on. Really hoping there would be a second season.

One of the best science fiction series ever.
xnikx-4737324 December 2022
Subversive and original. He follows no one's footsteps. Great actors and amazing acting. I don't know the idiot who stopped it, but he should definitely undergo a psychological evaluation. You don't easily find serials with an excellent plot and great acting. One of the best I've watched in recent years. I was impressed by the script but mainly by the actors who were among the best of the genre.

I was surprised to find out that there won't be a second series of episodes. Unfortunately, I am now forced to watch major productions of sci-fi series that I don't like even though a lot of money has been spent.
