  [staring at the obviously-nervous King] 

  Maleficent : I must say, I was distressed at not receiving an invitation.

  King Stefan : You're not welcome here.

  Maleficent : [whimpers mockingly]  Oh, dear!

  Maleficent : What an awkward situation.

  [turns to leave] 

  Queen Leila : You're not offended?

  Maleficent : Why should I be? Just to prove that I bear no ill will, I shall bestow my own gift upon the child.

  King Stefan : No! We don't want any gift of yours!

  Knotgrass : Stay away from the princess!

  Thistletwit : Yes, stay away!

  [the Dark Fairy casts the fairies backward across the room, shutting them inside a chest. Then Maleficent gives the baby Aurora a pensive look] 

  Maleficent : [casting her spell]  Listen well, all of you. The princess shall indeed grow in grace and beauty, in sweetness and wisdom and generosity, adored by all who meet her.

  Queen Leila : That's a lovely gift.

  [King Stephan, however, seems fearful of what Maleficent's "gift" will hold next] 

  King Stefan : Don't do this.

  [Pressing a finger to her lips, Maleficent notices a spinning-wheel] 

  Maleficent : But... As they said in ancient Rome, "He whom the Gods love, dies in youth"... he, or SHE.
