A must watch movie, Sports and Inspiration full blend
rohit-5118118 August 2023
Must watch.

Abhishek is wonderfull Saiyami is perfect into her role.

Writing and Direction is really good.

It inspires and motivates.

Class and Mass both will love it.

The director's skillful storytelling and attention to detail are evident throughout the film. Each scene is meticulously crafted, with stunning cinematography that captures the beauty of both the coastal town and the world of music. The director's use of music as a narrative tool is particularly noteworthy, as the symphony becomes an integral part of the film, enhancing the emotional impact of every scene.

In conclusion, "The Enchanting Symphony" is a cinematic masterpiece that combines a compelling storyline, exceptional performances.

VERY GOOD MOVIE
sunildaswaney-6364218 August 2023
GHOOMER is a very sensibly written and directed movie with above average performances by the junior cast. Abhishek Bachchan,Shabana Azmi and Angad Bedi who did not have very challenging roles were their usual competent selves. However the girl who was the main protagonist and acted as Anina had a very physically challenging role which she pulled off very beautifully. Besides being very pretty with very luscious eyes she must be commended for handling the physical aspect of her role so very well as it was definitely not easy at all to enact that particular role. Amitabh as himself was like a breath of fresh air. All in all a very good movie that benefited from a very good script, editing and screenplay.

8/10.

R Balki, the Bachchans and cricket?

Bollywood is back, baby!

Saiyami Kher, who is an excellent cricketer off-screen too, adds some authenticity to the proceedings. It must have been quite challenging to train for this role, and the hard work pays off.

Abhishek is great as the washed up, alcoholic coach and Amitabh Bachchan's extended cameo is geniunely delightful.

Shabana Azmi as the witty, sports expert grandma is the most unique character, and I'd love to see more of her.

All in all, if you love cricket, you'll love this!

And if you don't, it's still a very motivational, emotional story with great performances across the board.

You won't regret it :)

I wish more people could support movies like this one
yuhgyalwitme18 August 2023
An amazing film, that more people need to watch instead of dumb mindless masala movies.

This is the cinema that will take this country in a better direction. This type of movie can inspire many, can make a lot of people feel great about themselves, can learn a lot, reflect a lot and be thoroughly entertained while you are very much at it.

This is coming from someone who is very critical on the industry and the bottom of the barrel content that is produced.

Well ladies and gentlemen I have found the top of the barrel.

I implore you, go against the sheep society and see this film, you have nothing to lose but only one life to live.

Finally, An Emotionally Lofted Shot On The Cricket Field
SAMTHEBESTEST17 August 2023
Ghoomer (2023) : Movie Review-

Ghoomer Review: R. Balki's latest sports drama stars Saiyami Kher, Abhishek Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi in the lead roles. Ghoomer has already given away its plot in the promo, so you know it's a story of the human spirit. It's a story of dreams and the struggle to achieve them. Some people are lucky to be perfectly healthy to achieve it, while a few are not that lucky. They have to find their way against unexpected turns in life and stand different and stronger than others, especially normal people. There was a Marathi play called "Ananya" (also remade as a film in 2022), which tells the story of a young girl who loses both her hands in an accident. Ghoomer takes inspiration from that classic play to hit an emotionally lofted shot on the cricket field. We have had numerous films made on cricket, and hardly any film has left an impact except for Nagesh Kukunoor's "Iqbal" (2005) or Kabir Khan's docu-feature "83" (2021). The fad for biopics ruined a few good stories of talented sportspersons in India, but I am glad that Ghoomer came out better than those real stories despite being a fictional story, which is very much believable. I was STUNNED for a moment or two (believe me, it doesn't happen often, even though I watch so many movies), and that's enough to cover some certain loopholes. Ghoomer could have been better, though, practically and cinematically, but it's emotionally overloaded, which covers up a lot of things.

Ghoomer is about Anini (Saiyami Kher), a batswoman who is aiming to get a place in Team India. The right-handed batswoman gets selected in the probable team by the selectors after being humiliated by a retired male test bowler, now a drunkard, Paddy (Abhishek Bachchan). While driving away in frustration with her boyfriend, Jeet (Angad Bedi), Ani has an accident and loses her right arm. Disappointed and fed up with such a life, Ani wants to die, but is visited by Paddy Sodhi on her birthday to make things hopeful. Paddy makes her believe that she can play for Team India in the next 10 months if she wants to, but not as a batswoman but as a left-arm spinner. Demotivated Ani is filled with enthusiasm, but is it that simple to defeat lameness in cricket? Can Anini (read it the same from right or left) do it, and can Paddy make her strong enough to get out on the field again for the nation? Ghoomer is about that never-ending spirit of humans that cannot stop for anything and fights any impossible thing to achieve their dreams.

Ghoomer has a dramatic screenplay that is far from practical sense, but it does have logical answers to many of your questions at the end. In the very first scene, Paddy enters the ground where selection is going on, and you are like, "How?!" There is a good answer to it, as Paddy is a club member. It passes the time somehow, but then you see a nice philosophy behind it far later in the film. "Ego hurt Karo, wicket Lena nahi padega. Ek bevda kya Mera wicket lega yahi sochke koi mujhe wicket de gaya tha," lines like these are so intellectual when it comes to mind games. "Your left hand has to earn the right to bowl," Wow! The moment when THE AMITABH BACHCHAN says with his evergreen humour, "I love this game. Win or lose, the real winner is standing in the middle of the field". The film wins you over here. No matter how dramatic or histrionic it is, Ghoomer spins you there. If you love Cricket, you will love that scene and eventually the movie. It becomes predictable by the end, but the sentiments win the match for you (as a viewer). It doesn't matter how stubborn Paddy is as a coach; the ultimate motive approves of his actions. There can't be any explanation for his drinking habit, yet he has a monologue on it to cover it up. Amitabh Bachchan's commentator is sometimes too funny, too humorous, to be accepted as a neutral, but that's Balki's cinematic Liberty for you. It's up to you whether to believe it or not. There are some flaws here and there like this, and you have to be sensible enough to forgive them to enjoy the film. Insensibility will make you hate the film, and I don't want that to happen just because some scenes are bad, while all that the rest of the film deserves is LOVE.

Saiyami Kher knows cricket more than any Bollywood actress would ever know. That helps here. It's a known basic sense that the reverse motion of the right arm pushes the left arm to release extra force, but the film takes longer than expected to arrive at this conclusion. You keep seeing Saiyami bowl with the left arm when you know the outcome wouldn't be enough to make him an international cricketer. Yet Saiyami makes you believe it with her performance, expressions, and tough physical tasks. Actors usually don't need to give endurance tests, but once in a while there comes a character that requires them to do something more than just act, and Ghoomer was that film for Saiyami. I don't know whether you'll take a Ghoomer around yourself, but let's take a round around Saiyami and applaud her for the brilliant show. Abhishek Bachchan reminded me of Amitabh Bachchan in some scenes, but I didn't know that Big B was going to be there at the end (even that's too predictable since Big B has been there in R. Balki movies like a permanent member). Abhishek is fantastic throughout the film. Here is the performance that deserves the hype more than those forgettable OTT projects. Paddy isn't a legend, but he is a fine human with regular shortcomings of practical maturity. Shabana Azmi literally had a blast in RRKPK just a few weeks ago, and she had a similar role here too. Yes, she is knowledgeable, but her humour and spontaneity are both typically funny. Angad Bedi is decent as a loyal boyfriend, while Big B's cameo is illogically delightful. The supporting cast has done well too.

Ghoomer is not a big-budget movie, so the scale was bound to be limited. We don't have enough cricket films that can be as beautiful as a live cricket match when it comes to action on the field, but I don't think that can ever be achieved. Ghoomer suffers from the same problem, as the cricket scenes are not well executed. It clearly looks more like a feature film than a live match because it's almost next to impossible to create an organic atmosphere on the big screen. A few cut shots, zoomed angles, close-ups, and slow-mos-well, that's too mainstream. The music sounds fine to the ears but bores you visually. Again, the screenplay is at fault. You know exactly when the song is going to come and even what kind of song it is. The editing is superb, though, as you never have a moment to go out or check your mobile (except for a couple of songs). R. Balki is one of the finest filmmakers in our industry, and he continues to hold the same stature after Ghoomer. His filmography is not just about diversity but also about doing justice to the challenging topics he has chosen over the years. It's so good that even his weakest film comes out as a fine one-time watch. Ghoomer may not be his best or top 3 work for me, but he made me believe again that he can never make a bad film. Ghoomer will make you believe that even overdramatic films can be good. All you need is one genius like R. Balki. As a whole, Ghoomer is an honest attempt at an unbelievable story, but it sails rock steadily with the help of fine performances, strong emotions, and R. Balki's conviction.

An Inspirational Journey Marred by Predictability: A Review of a Young Cricketer's Tale
nis-1839321 August 2023
The film introduces us to Anina, a young cricketing prodigy with a bright future. The story begins with her unfortunate accident that results in the loss of her right hand, just as she's about to make her international debut. The shock and despair of the incident are palpable, but what follows is a story of resilience and determination.

A failed cricketer, whose dreams have been shattered and now lives a life of frustration, enters Anina's life. The connection between the two characters is nuanced, with shared dreams and passions bringing them together. Through rigorous and innovative training, he helps her find a new dream and transforms her fate, allowing her to play for the Indian cricket team again, this time as a bowler.

The film's central theme, the newly invented 'Ghoomer' style of bowling, becomes a symbol of innovation and creativity, setting the stage for Anina's triumphant return. The portrayal of this new bowling style is a highlight, capturing the essence of the game and the beauty of inventing something unique.

Abhishek's performance, though satisfactory, could have been more engaging. His portrayal lacked depth at times, making his character feel somewhat one-dimensional. On the other hand, Amitabh's commentary during the match scenes was a notable weak point, lacking authenticity and the real-life excitement that cricket fans would expect.

The predictability of the plot is perhaps the film's most significant flaw. The storyline follows a well-trodden path, with few surprises along the way. This predictability prevents the audience from becoming fully immersed in Anina's journey, as the outcome feels foregone from early on.

Despite these shortcomings, the film stands out from many of the uninspiring options currently available in cinemas. Its core message of perseverance, innovation, and the power of belief resonates deeply and offers a refreshing perspective.

The cinematography and the musical score add to the movie's appeal, with beautiful shots of cricketing action and soul-stirring melodies that stay with the viewer long after the credits roll.

In conclusion, the film is an inspiring yet imperfect portrayal of dreams, determination, and the love of cricket. It's a story that celebrates human spirit and innovation but falls short in execution in some areas. Abhishek's mediocre acting and the lack of surprises in the plot may disappoint some viewers, but the overall message and the unique concept of 'Ghoomer' bowling make it a worthwhile watch. For cricket fans and those looking for an uplifting story, it provides a better option than some of the lackluster films currently available.

Clean Bowled

Guru bhai, Guru bhai avyache. Dhoom Dadaka, karnyache. Abhishek Bachchan is back with a bang, clean bowled by his performance. Do watch the Ghoomer delivery in your nearby cinemas and have a cricketing blast. The motivational vibe present in the movie is just surreal.

R Balki is magician in the way he shows each and every frame of the movie so beautifully. Kudos to the entire cast Saiyami Kher, Shabana Azmi, Angad Bedi and our most loved actor of Bollywood MR Amitabh Bachchan. Its a complete story of how to never quit even you've failed at life multiple times. Always stand up tall and move forward. Go get clean bowled by this amazing movie Ghoomer.

Warning: Spoilers
The movie was more about Grit and determination against all odds to play for the country. The twist in the plot was too good at the climax of the movie wherein it was revealed that the coach was only responsible of the fatal accident of the player. In real life we do see some unique bowling action of players like Lasith Malinga of Srilanka and Cinaman Paul Adams of South Africa who went on to become successful bowlers.

What seemed to be odd was over dramatisation of the success wherein in the title song every spectator was mocking the action of Sayaami Kher. That should have been avoided and it didn't look like they were enjoying her success at all. Rather it seemed to be a mockery of her bowling action and her disability. The script was good and Junior AB rocked his performance this time and there was no need for AB Senior to help his son out in this movie at least. R. Balki sure knows how to connect to Indian audience and always ensures to cast father and son duo in his movie. The movie was truly inspirational and portrayed that if we as human beings set our minds to a particular task or job and give our best then" Nothing is impossible". That Gobar scene was highlight of the movie. There was no details of which series the Indian Team was playing whether it was a bilateral series or a WC. Whether the movie was a work of fiction or based on some true story which makes a spectator wonder whether the movie is based on some true story or real life incidents.

Engaging story of grit and determination
madanmarwah27 November 2023
Similar stories has been made into a movies earlier. Director Kukunoor's " Iqbal" comes to mind straight away. There are a few Hollywood movies too based on other games on a similar plot. This is however not an issue because it is rare to find a movie on a totally "original " script not done before. This plot is about Padam Singh ( Abhishek Bachchan) a middle aged, retired, frustrated, foul mouthed ex cricketer who now lives the life of a recluse. He has a house keeper Rasika( Ivanka Das) looking after his needs and whom he treats quite badly but she carries on regardless obeying his commands. Anina Dixit ( Saiyami Kher) is a young girl who is a promising cricketer and is on the verge of getting selected in the national cricket team but fate has other plans for her. She loses her right arm in a car accident and for her it is the end of all her ambitions. At this time Padma Singh comes as a ray in her life when he offers to train and groom her to make a comeback in national cricket. His long, extensive, rough and ruthless training soon shows results. She becomes proficient in left arm bowling by one spin of her body ( ghoomer) just before releasing the ball.

Director R Balki has a fine screenplay on guilt, redemption, grit, determination and triumph on which he has made a gripping movie. The scenes are credible and audiences will find them relatable. The director has also obtained top class performances from both Abhishek and Saiyami who live in their roles. Angad Bedi as the boy friend and Shabana Azmi as the grandmother are good in supporting roles The natural dialogue gives a realistic touch to the narrative. All other departments of the movie like cinematography, editing, music are top class.

Unrealistic
rhumayed23 November 2023
This movie could be a child's actual night dream which she tells her father in the morning. Once again the producer and director caught the nerve of Bollywood lovers and hit straight there. When the Bollywood drama goes in, logic and reality leave quietly through the backdoor. It is hard to believe an industry that produces sports drama like 'Dangal', 'Chak De India', 'Bhag milkha bhag' can produce cinema like this. Praise goes to Abhishek for his good performance, however it felt like it has been wasted on a movie like this. That being said, it seems like nobody cares about a good film, which will bring recognitions, everyone is after money.

Welcome to the R Balki's World. - on point performance and Work.-itsbymayank
mayanklouteriya18 August 2023
Abhishek Bachchan acting is good but only some makers can see that and knows how to show it on screen. Abhishek's character is nicely written and done by him.

Saiyami Kher performed brilliantly.

The story work and the concept is nice. It can easily seen on screen how much the makers (R Balki's Team) worked for this. Making movie with something this type of story and concept is rare. It's may not big thing for some people but for me concept is good.

Amit ji (Sir Amitabh Bachchan) played a small role (i was expecting him in a film because it's R Balki's Film..) his role is for short time but funny and interesting. Some dialogue's from him are motivational too.. I marked.

While watching movie expectation got high with time but didn't get that much of spark but sufficient amount of fun.

If you are fan of R Balki's work.. Go for it.. If not than just go for fun. You'll enjoy it.

GHOOMER DELIVERY 🏏🌟🌟🌟🌟
akshay-0183717 August 2023
R Balki once again brings his magic to the big screens! Ghoomer is a film that can be rewatched over and over again as a light hearted sports film that will make you laugh, cry, motivate, encourage & make you move out of your comfort zone! Saiyami is a Superstar.. hats off to Abhishek Bachchan for pulling off the coach character!! Together both of them could not get more realistic on screen. Dialogue deliveries are on point!! My favourite one is - Ye life Logic ka khel nahi, Magic ka khel hai!! And every time I hear that dialogue on repeat , it brings magic in my thought process! GHOOMER IS A MUST WATCH IN THEATRES.

Inspiring film filled with great performances
divyarajani17 August 2023
A must-watch film for cinema lovers and cricket fans. R Balki once again proves what a genius he is with storytelling. A well-directed film on a unique subject makes this film a great watch. It makes you go through a rollercoaster of emotions. Ghoomer is a fresh subject with some great performances by Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher. Easy to say this is one of Abhishek Bachchan's best performances. Saiyami aces her cricketing moves,,,a talent to watch out for. Angad speaks volumes with his subtle acting. Two of the best written roles are of Shabana Azmi and Ivanka . Amit Trivedi music blends perfectly with the film and adds to the narrative.

Everything that is good and pure about cinema is there in this movie, impeccable performances by the stellar artists. The entire movie just flowed never once did I feel the need to check the time or my phone. The story and direction is superb, the movie reinstated the fact that if you work towards your goal the universe will surely help you achieve it. Sometimes we set our limit too short but the universe has bigger plans for us. You will not once feel bad about the batter who lost her hand and had to convert in a bowler to live her dream of playing for her country, the climax is all heart. Must watch, take all your family along side.

agarwalprayag27 August 2023
Ghoomer is a Beautiful Movie Just bad timing of realese and no proper advertising. It would definitely work on box office if realised in open space where there was no Big Banner Movie Around.

Both the leads Abhishek bachan and Saiyami Kher Aced thier Roles, It's soo Meaningful Motivational and Emotion Filled Movie.

Abhishek Bachan is a such a great actor but almost all his movies flop because of multiple factors even after having Good Story and Good acting, Luck Doesn't Favour him most of the times

Also Amitabh Bachan Cameo as a commentator is a treat to watch.

Must watch when realised on OTT.

When Magic is prioritised, Logic goes out of the window!
SoumikBanerjee199613 November 2023
In a nation where batters are revered & worshipped like gods, where their achievements and personal feats get more limelight and bigger recognition as compared to their bowling counterparts, it's good to know someone had penned down a story keeping these 'less talked about' bowlers in mind, more so for a 'Spinner'.

Having said that, apart from their somewhat 'out of the box' approach, there was nothing else to cheer about. The script lacks the realistic touch this kind of sports drama tends to require.

The circumstances that are bred mainly fell into the improbable category; as a result, I couldn't buy into it, dearth of believability became an impediment.

This is a great movie with fantastic acting by Abhishek ! Another masterpiece by R Balki !

The movie keeps you hooked all the way through to end. It might seem predictable from the trailer but the way the story has been shown is what makes the difference ! It's funny , witty and emotional ! It's very exhilarating all throughout the movie. You will find yourself rooting for the key characters.

You can watch this with family and kids too ! No vulgar language. No agenda being pushed in this movie like some recent ones. Pure fun for everyone

Abhishek has really improved his acting and is at his best in this movie.

Superbly written and sharply done!!
singh-lalu50320 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Ghoomer is well written, well directed, well edited, and well cinematographed movie. And each piece of craft emote something in audience. It's emotionally intense at times, hearworming at others, and funny not because of some throwaway jokes, but because of characters styling and dialogues.

Nothing in the movie is frivolous, not a shot is wasted to please certain "kind" of audience. By throwing in romance or songs or adding an extra comedian actor to carry it over their shoulders.

It's an R Balki movie, so it was certain that whatever the script might be, direction would be near flawless, and that's absolutely true of the case as well. R. Balki ensures that the story invigorate right emotions in audiences even through a fictional cricket match scene which ran through its course as if it was a historical match in reality ( take any 83 movie refence of a match). Being an R. Balki movie, you can always expect a flashback that would shake you ( even if little, based on how ahead you are in the guessing game).

Writer must have known that a story this bold, not only needs to be beautiful and emotionally intense, but shall also serve as a sense of motivation within the realm of reasonable. The Story follows a very taught narration of the main Protagonist ( ANINA) with every side character chipping in to contribute in a effective manner. As the story moves through the family members, not one dialogues, or scenes look either forced or out of place. Entries of new characters in the movies are done so well, that the flow of the entire movie can never be questioned ( unless you really want to nitpick).

The actors have done so well in their limited roles. But one man deserves most of the praise, AB Jr. There would be people comparing him to the role of Kabir from Chal De and rightly so, it does give a feel of such kind. But it's much more personal, not just on the Kabir's level but also on the player's level. He don't have to prove anything. And whatever stakes are there in the movie are purely personal. Which for some would be a much better emoter than a patriotic theme of Chak De.

A movie done this well, deserves all our love and praise. And you should give it by watching it in your nearest theatre with your friends and family. Buried between the Bollywood crapload, this movie has everything - Good writing, good direction, good acting and good cinematography. It's a wholesome package which don't need the defence in any dept, but just praise.

What a brilliant, authentic and soulful movie!
raj_rage23 August 2023
A story of hope in adversity! Well crafted, and backed by great acting from the leads as well as supporting cast.

What stood out also for me was the nitty details such as the technical dimension of the actual cricketing shots & players being top notch as well. Sometimes in sports based movies, while the story / script are great, the technician aspect of the actors playing the sports is a let down. This film doesn't fall into that trap, so kudos to the great attention to detail by R. Balki.

Some dramatic license in the end, but that makes it entertaining I think vs take anything away from the emotional payoff.

Must watch! And please try to do so in theatres.

Ghoomer is Superhit
shweta-8926317 August 2023
"Ghoomer" is a riveting sports drama that seamlessly blends the intensity of competition with heartfelt human stories. Directed by a master R Balki , the film captures the essence of sportsmanship and the power of determination, leaving audiences exhilarated and inspired.

The movie follows the journey of Saiyami, a once-promising young athlete whose dreams were shattered by a tragic accident. Faced with adversity and physical limitations, Saiyami embarks on an extraordinary comeback that tests her limits and ignites his passion once again.

The film excels in its portrayal of both the physical challenges and the emotional struggles that athletes often endure. The training sequences are intense and visually captivating, showcasing the dedication and hard work required to excel in the chosen sport. The performances are top-notch, Abhishek Bachan's dialogue delivery is amazing especially "Loosers kya mehsoos karte hai.....". His emotional range and authenticity make create a strong connection between the character and the audience. The supporting cast also shines, contributing to the depth of the film's emotional resonance.

Ghoomer is Hit, and everyone should watch it!!!!!!

Great movie; redemption, comeback after injury, catchy tunes, women's sport,
mikef-2785623 August 2023
Went and saw an absolute stunner of a movie @ghoomer. Different league to most of the year and with the Oppenheimer, easily one of the best of the year. Tight, emotional, good catchy music, and some great lines too.

The range of emotions the movie engendered in a very tight and never too excessive fashion is a testament to the tight direction and scriptwriting. The ability to infuse some humor into what was an emotionally tough situations helped maintain balance. The ending at some level seems too good to be true, but it had to be that way.

I would not be surprised if this movie does not keep growing and becoming one of the year's sleeper hits

Congrats @Rahul Sengupta and team.

Fictional sports movie needs to be better than this
ashish-cooltech26 December 2023
Sports has many real life incidents to take inspiration from. Hence movies based on real life characters have a different appeal. That is not to say that a fictional story on sports cannot be made. But then it needs to touch a special less known aspect of the sport or have a gripping story like Lagaan. Ghoomer is a movie on a promising batswoman who loses her arm in an accident and then works on her bowling with her left arm and gets selected to the team. While the performances are Ok and make you cheer for the protagonist, at the end it is just a fantasy movie creating imaginary superhero who can do anything with will power. 4/10.
