On the show, Nathan mentions Tuwiuwok Bluff, and that it's a Mi'kmaq Native American word. Mi'kmaq was selected as an homage to Stephen King's novel 'Pet Sematary' in which an old Mi'kmaq (or Micmac) burial ground is the setting for the supernatural events of the book.
The local newspaper, the Haven Herald, is shown on Dave Teagues' business card as having a website at www.havenherald.com, is located at 217 King Street, Haven, Maine 01214. Dave's phone number is 201-555-0111. The address is a reference to Room 217, the haunted room from King's book 'The Shining', and King Street of course refers to author Stephen King himself.
The pilot episode revolves around a murder and strange weather conditions. The irony of this episode is that when it was being shot, on the south shore of Nova Scotia, strange weather in real life truly affected the filming and caused disruptions. Lucas Bryant describes the events of the day when he and Emily Rose shot the scene where their characters meet for the first time: "...it started off as a beautiful day and then it was black clouds followed by pouring rain. Then we had hail and two rainbows by the end of the day, and all that was in the same scene. I had very little faith that it would actually cut together, but it does and it's beautiful. So we just quickly got used to that being that status quo. What you can expect during the day was everything to change every five minutes."
This pilot features Nicole de Boer, a main cast member from The Dead Zone (2002) TV series, which is also based off of a Stephen King Novel.
