No TV series is without its lesser episodes. Unfortunately, this is one of FKB's lesser ones. The half-hour starts off in promising fashion as Bud's captivated by seeming ability of a hypnotically staring stage performer to read minds, causing Bud to think maybe he can do it too. Trouble is the storyline seems unsure where to go after setting up the premise. Thus the narrative meanders from here to there with few laughs or even chuckles before finally tying in with an awkward conclusion.
Still, swishy Betty's still swishy Betty, feisty Kathy's still feisty Kathy, while loving Mom's still loving Mom, so there are compensations. But most notably is Dad hitting an uncharacteric sour note when reprimanding Bud for lying, a harshness that goes beyond Dad's occasional sterness and is thus out of sync with the series as a whole. Too bad, but even the nicest days sometimes get cloudy.
In passing - couldn't help noticing in a close head-pairing shot how closely Wyatt and Donahue resemble one another facially. No mother-daughter leap here. Anyway see what you think.
