"Evie/Joe" First episode TOFTWD
butterflyseriesandmovies22 August 2022
The episode entitled: "Evie / Joe" pleased me a lot at first for introducing new characters with characteristics, perspectives different from what we had seen before... The reasons that lead each one to maintain sanity and survival, is something spectacular. This episode managed to move me in the first 5 minutes and you will soon know why... Terry Crews and Olivia Munn give a show of acting without humorous or dramatic exaggerations, but everything is in a perfect balance with incredible scenes of action, fight , suspense and a vision that contrasts between the old and the new world, where the Universe continues to contemplate the characters with hope. Kersti Bryan was phenomenal in her acting. The Episode makes references to a moment of the main series and for those who are Brazilian like me will be happy to another reference that the character Evie will make. Perfect script and direction within the balance it should be. Incredible photography. Brilliant performances that won't let fans down.

Better than expected
slak96u14 August 2022
At this point it's questionable whether we need more TWD. Like...what's different about this one, what will differentiate it from the half dozen other TWD installments? After watching episode 1 it would seem to be that answer is the actors, Terry Crews and Olivia Munn are both great, they share an adorable chemistry. Crews is goofy and fun as Joe and Munn is endearingly dorky as Evie. It all feels a bit quirky, very campy and over the top. The episode was fun, I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. The only big issues I saw were some poor special effects, other than that the production was fine. If you're a fan of TWD, or campy horror, this right up your alley.

Pretty decent beginning to the series.
dannyboydan-6539420 August 2022
Didn't expect much from this episode, but after watching it i am pretty pleased. Although some parts did feel a little rushed, which i kind of understand. However i thought that Olivia Munn and Terry Crews had a stellar chemistry and it fit really well with the characters' journey. There were some cheesy lines of dialogue, but honestly i feel like it kind of matched the personalities of these two characters. Overall, the episode was quite well paced and had me enticed from the start.

7.8/10.

This episode is good. A great start off to this anthology series. Terry Crews and Olivia Munn slay, I gotta give them that. And in spite of the cheesy and corny stuff, I still love it because it's really heartwarming and it gave a fresh impression to the twd universe.

Okay, with a Few Flaws
Daniel-Ontario5 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Overall, this episode was...fine. Terry Crews especially did a good job. Olivia Munn was usually okay, but a little wooden in some scenes. I liked both of these characters and wanted things to work out for them, which is hard to do in under 50 minutes.

On the downside, wow, I think this episode might have had every single zombie cliche in it. Two lonely survivors find each other on the road, blah blah. They find a safe place, but there's a psycho lady, blah blah. I mean, I guess they did what they knew works, but there was nothing original here.

Unfortunately, it ended with a glaring plot flaw. Why did they simply leave the fully stocked bunker that they found? Were they going somewhere? Why not at least take some supplies? It can't be because they were running away from a single zombie - we saw them kill a whole herd earlier. The ending was so annoying that it ruined the experience.

Am I looking forward to this series? Sort of. I'm glad I watched this episode, but the series lacks the confidence to try something interesting. It all seemed pointless.

A great story in The Walking Dead Universe about finding belonging
hunterthrasher15 August 2022
Episode one of Tales of The Walking Dead was a fantastic road trip story about finding belonging in a world occupied by the undead. It had 2 great lead characters with interesting backstories. A shocking twist that I personally did not see coming. And even some surprisingly emotional moments. This was a great start to the 4th series in The Walking Dead Franchise.

Interesting
gustavosb-0244314 August 2022
An interesting narrative and approach to the apocalypse.

The episode has a good script and it identity. But it would be a lot better if shot on film. Still can't get used to the zombie genre with this clean look.

Not too bad until...
avnrulz22 August 2022
So, we meet 'Joe', who has quite an underground shelter (which still has me wondering about the logistics that went into building it, if it had been real) in which he dwells now that the world has turned upside down. His one companion is his dog, Gilligan. Joe is living alone, with his pup, but traveling above ground for Gilligan to relieve himself, which leads to the inevitable situation which drives Joe to seek out another prepper he's had contact with, a woman on her own. A several hundred mile trip to an unknown location, giving up everything he's work on to survive? Hmm. So, off he goes, only to stumble across 'Evie', a neo-hippie survivor, who happens to be 'going his way' (how convenient). Off they go, bonding along the way. The story gets spoiled when Joe gets to his destination and we go through the usual trope of the mentally unstable survivor. It went south for me after that.

TWD has already told this story multiple times
rmmil24 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I wondered if this new "Tales" series would be a group of unnecessary stories that added nothing to the world, and so far that seems to be the case.

Cliches! So many typical The Walking Dead universe cliches I couldn't get past them, and that which wasn't cliched was just dumb instead. Observations:

-Dude is a prepper in a hi tech shelter with a dog. Ever see I Am Legend? I bet the writers did.

-Random convenient "hippy chick" who is somehow cleaner in a post apocalypse than regular hippies are.

-The only 2 people you see for most of the episode just happened to both be heading to a place hundreds of miles away yet they have the same destination within 10 miles of each other. The Walking Dead once again playing with insanely improbable coincidences to move the plot along.

-Oh no! Shocker! His less attractive prep buddy went insane so now Terry can end up with the much hotter new sidekick. We only saw that coming a million miles away.

"Tales" are just a bunch of one-off stories meant to be pilots for series that will never happen. A waste of talent, money, and time.

Worth it
VivecWolf15 August 2022
I only watched the first episode yet. I enjoyed the actors and their characters. The story was acceptable and the ending felt wholesome.

A good start to a new series in TWD Universe.

A Disappointing Start
amongpixels14 August 2022
The cast is decent, the premise is strong, and the final act becomes so odd and silly that it's quite funny (perhaps unintentionally so?). However, the episode tries to cram in almost every single cliche and emotional beat of a buddy-road-trip film that the story never has a chance to breathe. The pacing is abrupt and rushed, and lazy bouts of expository dialogue is used to compensate for the lack of time the characters actually have to naturally develop. This leaves the characters feeling more like caricatures than actual people, and the story more like a dot-point synopsis of what it really wants to be. Overall, it's a disappointingly lacklustre start to the series.

Cheap and lacking creativity
jamesthomaskay14 August 2022
It was a lazy route one attempt at making a standalone episode from the ground up. The characters were stock caricatures and was very predictable. I was very disappointed with the end result because I hoped.this would feel fresh and new.

Very Average
samcastrique22 August 2022
The first episode of Tales was extremely average. I loved the acting from Olivia and Terry, I also really enjoyed their chemistry. However the fighting scenes were a bit corny and finished before it even started. I wasn't a fan of the craziness of Sandra in this episode, altogether they were going for a more comedic approach, I wouldn't of minded if it was a little darker and gruesome.

My one gripe so far with both episodes is that the pacing and story telling aren't the greatest (Especially episode 2). To fix this issue for Season 2, instead of hiring directors from previous episodes of TWD and Fear I would hire smaller directors who have experience with short films, or even directors from short film competitions. I hate how they are trying to tell such a large story in one episode. Stick to something small and simple, or increase the episode length to one hour.

Either way average episode, hope they treat them more as short films rather then an episode in a series.

Terry and Olivia save Tales
cooperrobert-1009114 August 2022
The first episode of The Walking Dead is a terribly painful average episode that is only saved by the chemistry between Terry Crews and Olivia Munn.

As the first episode that is meant to experiment or tell stories about this universe in an interesting and unique way, this was a tale that didn't need to be told.

That said I would like to see Joe and Evie again. They were fun characters.

A fun but somewhat questionable start to this spinoff.
frankiesilver-9183615 August 2022
I didn't expect much going into this, however, the big stars this episode has, Terry Crews and Olivia Munn, made me kinda excited.

Of course, Terry works best in a comedic setting, so I knew this would have a lighter comedic tone. That's something I normally don't want to see from TWDU, but for an experimental one-off episode, I didn't mind it.

Overall though, I wasn't too thrilled about this. The actors are enjoyable to watch as expected, but there was an excessive amount of cheesiness to it that just comes with how the episode was written.

Oddly, some of the acting came off as cringy, and I'm not really sure why. Maybe it's a mix of the episode's weird direction and the actors struggling to make it work in the setting? Still, it was more so just certain lines and moments that felt off. All in all, these characters are well done and feel real.

The way both characters behave is intentionally cheesy, but there are parts like the dog's death that seem unintentionally so.

In some ways this reminded me of the dumb one-offs Fear does nowadays, but actually intentional in its silliness. There were times I genuinely laughed here.

Overall there is definitely stuff I enjoyed, such as seeing Joe's mental state deteriorate the longer he lived alone. Joe is a very likable character. Evie annoyed me at first, but I liked her by the end and loved her fighting style. The two undoubtedly have great chemistry. I wouldn't mind seeing them again.

One of the most notable problems for me was the episode's cheapness. They very obviously use the Terminus set, but it isn't actually Terminus. It comes off as lazy, but at least Sandra's bunker looked cool.

Speaking of Sandra, the crazy climax with her saved the episode for me. I didn't expect the twist at all and the drug scene was really fun.

This wasn't perfect by any means, and I think they could've picked a better pilot, but I appreciate the uniqueness. I'm lukewarm on this episode, but some people will definitely love this.

Good idea but disappointing
XTheXXTruthX14 August 2022
Essentially this is what happens when you launch an exciting new horror anthology but give wrong jobs to people whose previous credentials are Lipstick Jungle, Pretty Little Liars, How To Get Away With Murder and the other Walking Dead series that I forget the name of but is really crap.

It's clearly low budget which is totally fine for me and it looks ok, but 2 good actors can't carry this mediocre script. I watched this over 2 sittings because I fell asleep halfway through.

Not a good start.

Meh, it's Okay
jjenk91122 August 2022
The only thing good about this episode is Terry Crews's and Olivia Munn's chemistry. Other than that, I feel Tales of the Walking Dead, based on this first episode, is pointless and forgettable. Anything to keep the rabid fanbase satiated, I suppose.

Another bad spin off?
mhorg201815 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Pretty pretty pretty bad. From the lame opening where the dog gets killed to having one character be a post apocalyptic serial killer-in Ohio nonetheless where many of America's serial killers came from! Silly plot ideas: leaving a motorcycle running, Evie carrying that lamb or goat around without getting killed. The woman who was so obviously nuts. The survivalist compound that looked like something from Star Trek. Just a really poor beginning to a short series.

Big fan of Terry Crewes
Joseph-Molion15 August 2022
Much better than I expected, and I actually loved the concept. Quick one-shots of the world in the aftermath of the dead coming back to life.

Terry Crewes is one of my go-to guys, and he does NOT disappoint.
