Bad film with only 2 redeeming qualities.
trc48495 April 2012
Warning: Spoilers
If you've not yet seen this film and are considering renting it - DON'T. The film starts out somewhat watchable and goes quickly downhill from there. Only two of the actors, the female lead and the kidnapper, have any talent. In fact, this film is way below their skill level. The kidnapper reminds me of Stephen Dorff and was solid throughout, creepy and evil but not over-the-top. The girlfriend did a great job as well and seemed genuinely terrified. The male lead and his parents are just bad. And I mean BAD. Of course, the script deserves some or most of the blame for this.

To say the script is weak is an understatement. When the fundamentalist parents make their appearance, the dialogue gets laughably bad when the father and son get into their fire and brimstone, Old Testament babbling. I don't even think good actors could have pulled off those lines.

The film seems to have been shot well, but the script, direction and editing failed on so many levels, this project could have never worked.

I'm also wondering why a girl who was in the film for less than 5 minutes is on the cover instead of the lead when the lead girl is far more attractive. My guess is that the star may have had something in her contract that let her take herself off the box/poster if she wasn't pleased with the final product...which obviously she wouldn't be.

So, it's a very big "pass". How did this make it in Redbox?

If you have thought about staying in to watch this film... go out.
x-akurei27 April 2012
I can only describe this as brilliant, spelt as C R A P... The most entertaining part of it was the father's poetic lines in between it all. This film can only be matched to films such as Eden Lake and Wolf Creek, which in my opinion are brilliant exams of terrible films. The script was predictable throughout, the eventual outcome was foreseeable; it is a film that makes you want to scream at the television because of how ridiculous it is, but yet you don't turn it off because it's somewhat of a fatal fascination. For acting ability, there will certainly be no Oscars. I strongly suspect that a better film could be put together by amateurs. I wouldn't recommend this film at all.

Warning: Spoilers
OK..so what I think is that the writer thought he had twists that would surprise the audience. Um well..not really. So a boyfriend decides to take his girlfriend to meet his parents. Well needless to say it is easier said than done. You have the ruse of a "friend" terroizing the couple. Then of course you have the psycho parents. The plot twists are stupid. At least the ones you want to live in the end do live. It was just a mess. Not really scary. I just wanted the movie to end. If you have nothing else to watch then go for it. I do not want to watch it again. Just run away that is my best advice. The cast is OK. Not a movie I would watch again...have to add lines here according to guidelines for reviews...Sigh!

Stay Away - Not Worth Your Time
da_huck25 May 2012
Just rented this movie last night looking for a good scare. Based on the description for this movie - "Young perfect couple is kidnapped and tormented until secrets are revealed that will change their lives forever" I thought "sounds interesting". Looking at the cover I saw that it won an award at the Las Vegas Film Festival for independent films. I thought it might be worth having a look.

Wrong!

This convoluted story had so many flaws I don't know where to begin. -The women who were killed/tortured looked almost identical. Found myself going back and forth to make sure the same woman wasn't getting killed/tortured over and over. -The acting was sub-par. There was no chemistry between the leads especially when emotions were supposed to be running high. All the characters were one dimensional. -Storyline was so confusing I lost track and much less didn't care who survived. -Poor soundtrack when there was one.

One thing about a good horror/suspense movie for me is that there should be some tension being felt by the characters. This movie had no tension. The director did not try to build any and had no sense of what it takes to build a good scary scene. There was so little emotion explored on the screen it kept me unattached to the movie.

Not sure what the other movies were like during the LVFF, that this one won an award, but I will stay away from other Indie films with that award certification from now on.

This movie sucks!!!
jim_blake24 March 2012
My wife and I saw this movie last night and it is by far one of the worse films we have ever seen. Acting horrible, story line bad, filming bad... DO NOT WASTE 2 HOURS of YOUR LIFE ON THIS FILM...horrible

sucks horrible waste of time do not watch Just really bad. 5 stars is very misleading IMDb... This is NOT a 5 star movie

At times you will asking yourself what the hell is going on. The acting will make you laugh it is so over done. This is supposed to be a horror film.. It's not. I just really don't know how someone invested money on this movie. It makes me want to buy a good digital camera and make my own movie cause I know I could have done better.

Do you get the idea that I hated this movie? LOL

One of the worst movies I have ever seen
Debirose5219 July 2011
I screen movies for a local film festival, and attend several festivals a year, and I honestly have not seen a worse film. I saw this at the Las Vegas Film Festival. I can't complain about the camera work or scoring, but the acting and dialog were terrible. It was obvious who the villain was immediately just by his actions, so to me there were no plot twists. I felt no empathy with any of the characters because they were so one dimensional. The Mother and Father characters were so over-acted that they became funny. There were people laughing in the audience, and it is NOT a funny movie. It reminded me of The Room - a movie made in all sincerity to be serious, and actually becomes funny because it is done so badly.

Don't waist your time on this
jameswilliams78411 May 2013
Almost nothing redeeming in this movie. The female lead and the kidnapper are good enough actors but the rest of the cast was horrible. If you are looking for a scary thriller, this is not the movie to go see. This is a story you have seen many times and done much better. A girl and her boyfriend go on a weekend trip to meet his parents. The couple is kidnapped and terrorized by the kidnapper. Needless to say the move degenerates from here and really gets very boring and uninteresting. You really end up not feeling anything for any of the characters. Don't wast your time on this one, its not worth watching at all.

Great film!
jarekzabczynski26 July 2011
I can't agree with the review below that completely and almost intentionally trashes this film. Saw this at the Las Vegas Film Festival this year and had a great time with it. Yes, the killer is certainly foreshadowed, but the film makes you second guess this in and out, which was part of its charm. You think you know what's going on, then again you begin to hesitate, which only keeps your attention and puts your mind into overdrive. The twists and complete character reversals add to the magic in this film which makes you like it more as the film progresses. Very reminiscent of some of those older 70's films like "Open Season."

Great writing, acting, cinematography and production all come together and deliver a fantastic storytelling experience that keeps your eyes glued to the screen. While no film is perfect and all come with their own faults, this one pulls it off "right!" Cast and crew should be very proud of this one.

IT'S TIME FOR US TO BE A FAMILY AGAIN
nogodnomasters12 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Rich guy Steven (Tom Sandoval) takes his near perfect girlfriend (Frida Farrell) to meet his parents. He stops along the way and gets jacked into a predictable plot, filled with tying people up and mild whipping. Unfortunately I had the film pegged just from reading the DVD description and before they got jacked....okay I didn't see that part coming.

The acting was fair, but face it, this wasn't much different than a home break-in film, without the quirky personalities we can relate to. Available in a DVD 10 pack.

Parental Guide: F-bomb. Near sex. Near nudity.

Warning: Spoilers
This is a garbage film. Even so, I would rather watch this pile of garbage than Saw II, and Saw III that I watched this week. As others mentioned the female lead and the original kidnapper were decent, not great. The boyfriend, his mother and father are pure Z grade garbage. The story, dialogue, and all the crappy twists are all garbage.

The cinematography, editing and music was competent. Not great but workable. Daniel Fanaberia wrote the story and he performed as the kidnapper. His story sucks. I hope he has better stories.

I watched it because I got it in a set of 10 movies for $5 and I finished watching it to see how this mess would end. The only way I made it through the end is because I was distracted by playing guitar while watching. If the filmmakers had a decent story/dialogue the actors could have handled this project, and it would have turned into a C rating for a B movie. And a better story would have been a B rating for a B movie. And if it had some genuine original and twisted scenes with higher caliber actors, cinematographers and music, we would be in the realm of an A rating for a B movie. However, what we have here is basically a bunch of guys who technically can produce a project, but starting with a fairly crappy, bottom of barrel story, the final result is garbage. Not worth seeing. Unfortunately, there is nothing of value here. Except what not to do in movies.

Here's a novel idea: Start with a decent story, rewrite it into a suspenseful screenplay with some thought provoking intense dialogue. Then start procuring funding to hire actors, crew, renting equipment, scouting locations, and etc to produce a film.

Rating is a F, for a B movie. 1 star.

Not bad

Warning: Spoilers
Spoiler. Tom sandoval and Kristen from Vanderpump rules are in this. Krstens part is so small I'm not sure how the previous viewer could say she was a great " actor". I saw this a few years ago and recognized the then couple right away. As for the movie.. I thought it was pretty good. Considering the so called "horror" on todays market. Tom was pretty good. After seeing him on the reality show I was surprised he pulled of such a character. it's worth a watch. especially if you're a fan of Tom and Kristen.

Enjoyed it! One of a kind psych-thriller.
filmbuff44420 July 2011
I saw this movie at the LVFF and was glued to the screen as soon as the action kicked, around 8 minutes into the film. Before I knew it, I was puzzle solving and I quickly realized I had never seen a film like this before. There are laughs, a few scares and very strong acting from the majority of the cast. I read the above review and am not quite sure what her deal is but I'll tell you this; it's a freshly unique, well shot and acted thriller that does not take itself too seriously and is not afraid to challenge the status quo. I also had a film in the festival and was not surprised at all that BEHIND YOUR EYES took home the big prize. It looks like a studio movie and was by far the most entertaining of the entire weekend.

I won't say more so you can enjoy the plot twists yourself.

Suspenseful
itsgisla22 July 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this film at a private screening and found it to be very suspenseful. There are several plot twists and the film keeps you engaged from beginning to end. This is no doubt attributed to great writing by Daniel Fanaberia who gives an excellent performance as Mark. Tom Sandoval is very convincing as Steven. Director Clint Lien takes you on a crazy ride that comes to a surprise end. There is never a dull moment in this film. It takes a new twist on an old idea and makes it work well. It helps that the editing and camera work are great as it just enhances the story. Overall, the acting, directing and writing are very good. It would be great to see it receive theatrical distribution.

Great Independent Suspense Thriller
melissa-974-10070230 July 2011
The independent film community is ready to demand some attention. Clint Lien (Director) and Daniel Fanaberia (Writer) prove this with their thriller BEHIND YOUR EYES.

The story is captivating, as Fanaberia takes viewers on a contorted thrill ride, filled with action, suspense, twists, and even a few laughs.

Tom Sandoval, who plays Steven, has some big things in store for him! He is absolutely compelling to watch. His passion on screen is magnetic, and I am excited to see what he brings to the table in the future... because Hollywood isn't done with him yet!

Fanaberia also lends his talent to the character of Mark Balentine for some on screen fun. He is extremely talented, and his versatility is more than apparent in this film.

Another fresh talent, Kristen Doute (who plays Katie Richter), is simply radiant. This is another name to watch in the film world! She possesses an incredible depth (and strength) that translates beautifully to film.

The quality of this film is far superior to most indie thrillers. They made this film with care, and it shows. Film lovers should really take the time out to appreciate all of the hard work that it takes to make an independent film, such as this one. BEHIND YOUR EYES proves that thrillers are no longer reserved for big budget Hollywood studios!
