- A series of disturbing dreams compels General Beckman to send Chuck to see a psychiatrist. Anna Wu comes back to the Buy More.
- After strange dreams, even involving Shaw, block Chuck's Intersect control, the general takes him out of duty and sens him for therapy to CIA psychiatrist Dr. Leo Dreyfus, who diagnoses unacceptable dream compromising. Chuck is nevertheless determined to act upon his dream 'premonitions' about a fatal attempt on the Zambian president, who comes attend a concert, and a killer tooth. - Chuck (Zachary Levi) and Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) are vegging out in front of the TV. Unfortunately, it's a wasteland tonight. Mondays, you know. Sarah still doesn't get the gestalt of Spies Like Us (1985), but it's a guy/wannabe spy thing. On the news, President Jakaya Kuti of Zamibia (Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs) is in town to hear a concert of the L.A. Symphony. (Guess he won't be going to Brooklyn to visit Mr. Kot-TER.) Chuck tells Sarah he loves her. She smiles, caresses his face...and that's it. (ouch) He wakes up, and Sarah tells him she loves him...with General Beckman (Bonita Friedericy) playing the cymbals outside. And the doorbell rings, because their Zamibian takeout order is here. Delivered by...wait for it...Daniel Shaw (Brandon Routh)! And Chuck immediately pulls out two Sig Sauers and blasts him into the fountain, which has water in it for some inexplicable reason.
Yes, Chuck had a nightmare. However, he is convinced the Intersect is merely encroaching on his dreams, and something will happen to President Kuti. It would appear that he's had a bunch of them lately, but Casey (Adam Baldwin) and Beckman were not too happy to be woken up (and in the case of Beckman, interrupted her playtime). Beckman's solution is to send Chuck to a CIA therapist. Chuck is hesitant, naturally. However, Chuck is on the couch with Dr. Dreyfus (Christopher Lloyd), wondering how the whole process worked. Answer questions? Word association? (don't say 'father') Chuck doesn't want to talk, but Dr. Dreyfus wants to write and continues to do so until Chuck starts talking. He talks about Sarah and works his way around to the non-returned 'I love you' from the other night. More note-taking later, Dreyfus surprises him by knowing about the Intersect. He surprises Chuck even more by telling him the Intersect has potentially harmful side effects. ("Like dry scalp?") Like insanity. Chuck won't believe it and thinks something will happen to President Kuti at the concert. Dr. Dreyfus takes him off field duty.
Back home, Devon (Ryan McPartlin) is recovering from malaria (or whatever Justin injected him with). Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) runs into Casey, who recommends African Snake Herbs for Awesome's condition. She politely declines. Very politely. Chuck keeps what Dr. Dreyfus told him from Sarah, even though she wants him to trust her as his partner and girlfriend. He does tell Morgan (Joshua Gomez) at the Buy More about his dreams and how they may be Intersect-influenced. Chuck doesn't want to involve Sarah with all of this, but Morgan volunteers to help him...by asking about his pant size. Morgan, however, has another issue to deal with: Anna Wu (Julia Ling) walks into the store. (And nobody should ever get fired from a cool job, but unemployment from the show really agrees with her.) Morgan can't be found because he got Chuck and himself two tickets to the L.A. Symphony and tuxedos. (no cummerbund, call him crazy) Jeff (Scott Krinsky) and Lester (Vik Sahay) are worried sick about Morgan, since he's focused and driven now, but Anna thinks he couldn't have changed much. And Morgan gets the slow walk treatment in his tuxedo (complete with wind machine effect), and Anna follows it up with the standard dropping of the jaw to the floor. She wants to talk, but he has to run to go with Chuck to the symphony. She's speechless.
Ellie runs into Justin (Scott Holroyd), the security officer/Ring operative, at the Buy More. Posing as a CIA agent, he pretends John Casey is after her father and wants her to keep an eye on him. He also wants her to not say they talked and to ignore anybody who says she's crazy for thinking Casey isn't a double-agent. She goes to check on Casey and sees his open gun locker, sporting some serious hardware. She tries to tell Devon, but sure enough, Awesome thinks she's crazy.
ELLIE: He has guns! Very big guns! We have to do something!
DEVON: OK. Casey has some serious guns. Is that creepy? Yes. Is it illegal? Sadly, no.
Charles Carmichael and Cobra (Morgan) make it to the symphony. Morgan wants to talk about Anna, Chuck reminds him they're on a mission, and the lady next to them tells them to shush! Back at Castle, Sarah and Casey figure out what Chuck and Morgan are doing and high-tail it to the symphony. During the performance, Chuck dozes off and has another dream where he is on stage, tries to shoot Shaw in the audience, but Shaw points out the real problem is Dr. Kowambe (Allan Louis), one of Kuti's scientific advisors. Chuck thinks it's Kowambe who wants to kill Kuti. Chuck leaves Morgan a tranq gun and runs to the President's box. Chuck talks Sarah into helping him, while Casey goes after the "bearded elf" and uses Chuck's tranq gun on him. Chuck frisks Kowambe, and he jokes the would have preferred Sarah do it. His perverted smile makes Chuck flash, telling him there was Ring intel in a fake tooth in Dr. Kowambe's mouth. Chuck lays him out flat to everyone's shock, including Sarah. He grabs the tooth before being dragged away to a CIA psychiatric unit.
Beckman reams Sarah and Casey a new one about letting Chuck cause an international incident, but she does confess Chuck's condition is deteriorating and may be unavoidable, something Chuck didn't tell Sarah. Casey promises to take Sarah over there to talk to Chuck. Right now, Chuck is being introduced to some of his new "friends," all of whom are former spies who cracked under the pressure. Sporting his "Big Lebowski" robe, he meets the other people who flew over the Cuckoo's nest, such as Lewis (Kevin West), who is going by the codename of Merlin.
MERLIN: What are you in for? Something...sexual?
CHUCK: (shocked) Everyone in here are spies? Like me?
Casey tells Morgan about what happened to Chuck, and Morgan is worried. So much so, he blows off Anna for the second time. Casey and Sarah visit Chuck. Casey is a bit wary, especially given Chuck wants them to analyze the tooth he found...which he swallowed to hide it from being found. In spite of Casey being grossed out by Chuck trying to extract the tooth, Sarah does promise to analyze the tooth. Chuck hopes the truth is in the tooth. (And yes, they said that.) The tooth comes back as...a tooth. Sarah calls Chuck to tell him that. She tries to be encouraging, but to no avail. However, Dr. Kowambe arriving at the psychiatric ward changes things.
Sarah goes to Dr. Dreyfus' house to plead her case about letting Chuck out of the psychiatric ward.
SARAH: He needs to be okay. I need him to be okay. I need to go to the hospital tonight, try and help him figure this out. I...love him.
DREYFUS: Ever tell him that?
It turns out going to the hospital was Dreyfus' plan all along, since Casey got to his house right before Sarah did.
Kowambe takes out the hospital staff and injects Chuck with a psychotropic drug to find out how much he knew about his tooth, the one on the other side of his face containing the Ring data. Chuck tries to escape and flashes on kung-fu, but the drug has slowed him down too much to be of any use. The other spy patients try to help, but they get taken out. Fortunately, Casey's gun and Sarah's martial art skills work just fine and they take out the doctor and his henchmen.
At the Buy More, Anna goes ballistic and insist Morgan talk to her. She really wanted to give him some of his things. She also gives him a huge kiss after his constant rebuffs turned her on. She thinks they may yet have a future, but he has moved on and sends her on her way.
Justin meets with Ellie, and she confirms everything he said. Justin insists on talking to her father, and she has a way of making contact with Stephen J. Bartowski.
Kowambe was in the business of harvesting human organs and genetic manipulation. His plan was to sell the research to The Ring. Beckman isn't authorized to clear Chuck, but Dr. Dreyfus can. Which he does, but Dreyfus warns Chuck the stress the Intersect puts on his brain could lead to serious mental deterioration. Dreyfus isn't sure what will happen, but he insists Chuck tell Sarah about it. He is prepared to do so, until Sarah finally breaks down and tells Chuck she loves him. She wants a future with him. She asks him what he wanted to tell her, but he blows it off and says he's fine. But a nightmare later that night involving Shaw again...this time where Shaw claims he's alive...terrorizes him. He tells Sarah it's nothing, but does she believe him?
