Refreshing heavy format, strong installment, captivating and intense story
igoatabase21 April 2010
If you're sometimes bored by the usual featured character episodes then you should definitely dig this installment. Indeed even if Lost's format allows the characters to grow on us I can't help missing some of them when they're not featured enough. But the stories are so captivating that it's more a pro than a con. However The Last Recruit proved that unifying all arcs wasn't a challenge the mind behind the show couldn't handle. From the direction to the writing it was one of the strongest episode. First as expected Jack and Black Locke's encounter was mesmerizing. Second Sawyer's plan developed further and it brought some tension to the story. Third many surprising events made it even more intense. I can't wait for an other Sundown, or Sunrise ! To sum things I really hope the upcoming episodes will have the same heavy format because I don't see the point of focusing on characters anymore. Making their arcs collide makes sense and should definitely lead to some dark sparkles and puzzling moments. Which side of the moon would you choose ?

One of the better episodes of this season

Warning: Spoilers
This was one of the better episodes after "Everybody loves Hugo". Some may find the Hugo-Libby love story cute, but i definitely did not.

Looks like the thrill is setting in for the Series finale with all the characters making an appearance in both the timelines except alpert's team in the island line.

This was one of the better episodes with Ab Aterno occupying the top slot. Hume is playing fate by bringing people together either by persuading or by hit&run. The whole season doesn't match the thrill & excitement of the previous season's yet.. but gotta see wat cuse & lindelof have in store for the series finale.

Now have a two week break before the next broadcast.

One of the better episodes of this season

Warning: Spoilers
Probably the best season 6 episode since "Ab Aeterno", "The Last Recruit" benefits from the multi-centric format, which ties together nearly all the different story lines in the alternate universe, while at the same time giving the spotlight to the original Losties (plus Frank and Desmond), who actually think and act (or at least try to) for themselves here, instead of sitting around passively and waiting for orders. This is the most active Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Claire have been in a LONG time. There are also some great lines, like "John Locke wasn't a believer. He was a sucker!" and "You've already decided, ever since you let him speak to you". I particularly liked the scene on the boat between Jack and Sawyer; their roles have been reversed, with Sawyer desperate to leave the island and Jack prepared to stay. And of course the ambiguity as to who is (relatively speaking) "good" and who is "bad" is sustained. With Widmore and Flocke increasingly violent in the pursuit of their agendas, and Jacob sitting back and letting it all play out, it would be an understatement to say that the Losties are caught between a rock and a hard place. There is also a big reunion in "The Last Recruit", but it feels rather underwhelming after such a long wait. Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to the next episode, because the show itself is finally moving forward. *** out of 4.

Intervention of fate
TheLittleSongbird19 October 2018
When 'Lost' was in its prime, it was must-watch television. Remember first watching it, found it remarkably easy to get into, was hooked from the start and was on Season 3 by the end of one week. The general consensus is that the final season is a disappointment and cannot disagree.

It, Season 6 that is, started promisingly enough with "LA X", both parts, but the season since up to this point was variable, mostly somewhere in between of being decent and great. There were disappointments like "Lighthouse", "The Package" and particularly "What Kate Does", but there were excellent episodes such "Sundown", "Dr Linus" and the season's high point "Ab Aeterno" too.

Season 6's eleventh episode "The Last Recruit" is a great episode. For me, it's among the season's best, alongside "Ab Aeterno", "Happily Ever After", "Sundown" and "Dr Linus".

Pace is tight and throughout the writing is taut and not soapy. There is more story clarity than some of the previous episodes and character motivations are not as vague as some of the previous Season 6 episodes.

The story is gripping, full of suspense and has emotion. The story and character development feels advanced rather than going backwards, being reiterated or ground to a halt.

Loved the starting unifying of the story arcs, things do feel like they're coming together. Loved that it feels like things are moving forward, like more development to Sawyer's plan. Love that there were some shocking revelations and twists that enhance the intensity, with an ending that one doesn't predict. Loved too that many characters have much more to do than they have done for a while and that they serve crucial and relevant roles in the story, also that they behave like themselves and not lost what made them the strong characters they are. The timeline linking is one of the more successful efforts of the season.

As always, the acting across the board is on the money. Matthew Fox, Josh Holloway and particularly Terry O'Quinn being standouts.

Cannot either fault the stylish production values, the chilling and understated music score and some of the best direction of the season. As said already, the writing is also taut and never less than fascinating.

In summation, great and one of the season's best. 9/10 Bethany Cox

For Brainless Fans

Warning: Spoilers
Jack and Locke talks about the real John Locke in the woods and Claire follows them. Locke tells that he was the one that pretend to be their father. Sawyer tells to Hurley that he intends to use Widmore's submarine to flee from the island. Zoe comes to Locke's camp and asks for Desmond and shows the bellicose power of Widmore. Locke asks Sawyer to bring a boat to attack Widmore and asks Sayid to kill Desmond in the well. Jack, Sun Hurley and Frank leave Locke's group but Claire follows them to meet Sawyer and Kate. Jack decides to leave the boat and stay in the island. When he reaches the island, Locke learns that Sawyer took the boat to go to the other island. Widmore bombs Locke's group.

In the parallel reality, Ben goes in the ambulance with Locke to the hospital and they arrive at the same time with Sun and Jin. In LAPD, Sawyer talks to Kate and then Miles calls him to tell about the multiple murders in the restaurant and Sayid is the prime suspect. Desmond meets Claire when she is going to an adoption agency. He offers the free services of the lawyer Ilana to Claire. Sayid tells Nadia that he is leaving and will not see her again; however Sawyer arrests him. Ilana is the lawyer that will read Christian's will to Jack and Claire, but there is an emergency in the hospital and he asks to reschedule the reading. When Jack arrives in the hospital, he sees that his patient is Locke.

I decided to give a new chance to "Lost" to see how it ends and I am impressed with the mess that the writers have made with this show that switched from drama to sci-fi and now to a supernatural plot. There are so many inconsistencies that only brainless people may like it. My vote is five.

I really don't know where u get this "best episode so far" review from guys for me it was one of the worse one since silly temple episodes from beginning of the series, all 50 min. it's just walk and silly talk one to each other the only explanation we get is about dead body and how jakob "use" them for his own purpose (i.e. Jacks father ) other than that we got walking, swimming and silly talk, not much explanation in alt. world either, disaster so far 3/10 as me being v. generous hope next episode bring more light ps: and please producers when will you get rid off Said his so annoying and left without any purpose in this season regards - accurist
