- A young boy, who happens to be a brilliant detective, recruits a washed up actor who played a detective on TV, to work as his front man in solving a jewel heist.
- Ace detective Rip Hilliard, 13, has tamed up with out of work actor Grant Logan who plays the detective while Rip, the real brains, does the thinking. They are investigating the theft of the fabulous Star of India Diamond but Grant's ineptitude has led to the imprisonment of the wrong man. Trying to put matters right, Grant has now come up with another suspect ... When he and Rip break into the suspect's flat to search for clues, they are interrupted b< the arrival of the police and a chase ensues. They manage to escape - just. Meanwhile, Grant has been asked by Lady Eaton-Holt, the owner of the Star of India, to take charge of the security of the remaining jewels as they are transported from the museum to the family safe at Eaton-Holt Manor. Unfortunately, things don't quite go to plan and Grant finds himself being arrested at the scene of a new crime. Grant tries to explain the truth and calls out for Rip to back him up. But Rip is nowhere in sight. And without Rip for proof, no-one will believe a word Grant says ... Grant spends a less than peaceful night in prison. The next morning on the way to the courthouse, he makes a reckless bid for freedom. He heads straight for Rip's house, with the police hot on his trail. Grant is furious with Rip for deserting him in his moment of need and challenges him to a duel in the middle of Rip's bedroom. But, as always, Rip is at least one step ahead of him. As the police search up to the front of Rip's house, the pair escapes round the back and head for Eaton-Holt Manor. There, before Lady Eaton-Holt and her family, the museum curator and the police, Grant gives the bests performance of his career - with Rip feeding him his lines- At last the real criminals are exposed and Grant Logan is the hero of the hour. Grant is now convinced he's the greatest detective in all London, when of course it was Rip who figured it all out. Despite this, they do make a remarkable team and with just a bit more than a little persuasion from Rip their partnership is born .—Anonymous
