Writer/cinematographer Jonathan Helms sold his prized car (nicknamed "Petunia") to cover additional production expenses that would have put the film over budget.
The film was reportedly based on writer/cinematographer Jonathan Helms' own personal experiences.
Production almost shut down due to a physical altercation between a boom operator and an inebriated man who intruded on the set, demanding a role. Director Devin Vaughn resolved the conflict by offering the man a role in an upcoming film and a sandwich from the craft services table. Though the supposed role was merely a ruse, producer Mandy Achter immediately began forming a preliminary budget for the fictitious project.
Due to their work on Day In/Day Out, Devin Vaughn, Jonathan Helms, and Daniel Kantor were all voted "Most Likely to Succeed" by their fellow graduates.
