- Despite Tim's efforts to smooth over his Sean Smithwick article, Louisa remains indignant about The Echo's content and her role as the editor. She heads out to Deb's animal shelter to research a community profile for the paper. It's obvious Deb was born for this job and Louisa is beginning to feel the same about working at The Echo. Sandy and Minna show Rita , Lily and Tsung Chi where the Chinese used to pan for gold on the block of land owned by the Heritage Committee. Tsung Chi cannot shake a bad feeling about this place. Minna notices that the native bush is being destroyed by marauding goats owned by Owen Diston. Owen wants to buy the land and when his offer is rejected begins a campaign of intimidation against Minna. Louisa, Marg and Gemma decide that Deb needs to spend more time with her husband Trev, so offer to watch the shelter while she goes out on the town with Trev. But their confidence soon dissipates when they realise just how difficult looking after the menagerie of animals really is. In the face of Owen's harassment, Minna starts to think that she can't continue, but when she and Sandy are invited to Holly's school they hear that the students have devised a plan for a sustainable community garden on the Heritage Committee land. After some deliberation the oldies on the committee agree to help.
