A nod to Kurosawa?
jyhunt18 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The plot line of this episode is, until the conclusion, virtually identical to that of Kurosawa's film High and Low: the kidnappers mistakenly take the child of the poor(er) parents; the wealthy father provides the ransom money to save the life of the child; the ransom money is even picked up by the kidnappers adjacent to the train tracks as it was in the 1963 film.

All in all, not a bad source to weave into a Murdoch episode! In fairness, many of Kurosawa's films have been copied/re-made over the years, but this is the first time I've seen it done with High and Low. Well done, too.

Finding a kidnapper, past affects the future.

Warning: Spoilers
Inspector Thomas Brackenreid, Murdoch's boss loses his temper a lot. He gets mean in many episodes and uses what he can to get the results. You will see a lot of emotional mood changes in this episode.

This episode starts with Mrs Brackenreid his wife and a nanny sitting and talking in a park while young Brackenreid is playing pirates with his friend. The young friend has a rich family named Stanton. They both are around 7 years old.

A woman's starts screaming and the ladies get off the bench to see what happened. The lady said a man stole her purse. Mrs Brackenreid and a nanny talk with her a bit then go back to where they were. They find out the Brackenreid boy left with a man and was kidnapped.

Inspector Thomas Brackenreid panics and sees his wife in pain. At some boy he confesses how he wish he was a better father. It is kind of good advice to fathers when he admits what he could have done better. He is brought a message by Mr Stanton that the kidnapper wants money for the boy. The problems is Stanton's son is not the boy the boy that was kidnapped and Brackenreid is afraid they will kill his son once they find out.

A lot of investigating is done. It appears Stanton's son was adopted and the mother of this kid just got out of prison.

Murdoch stays very dedicated to treat everyone fairly and not let his emotions affect his investigation and he calms those cops down that get out of hand.

The end is good but very emotional for all concerned and kind of heartbreaking.
