Is There Any Way Out?
Hitchcoc4 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Very good episode. Hank is hanging on to life. Walter is in the hospital with the family. Unfortunately, Jesse is back at the lab with nothing to do and a huge quota on hold. Gus moves in and out. He is proving to be one of, if not the, most dangerous characters on the face of the earth. There is an incredible scene where the surviving member of the pair, having lost both of his legs, leaves his hospital bed, drags his bleeding stubs, and heads for Walter (remember they know him from his picture). The biggest point here is that Walter and Jesse better get moving...now!

I See You (#3.8)
ComedyFan20102 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
While not as full of action as the previous episodes (would be hard to do it in each!) it is still very high quality with incredible scenes and moving on.

The beginning with Jesse seeing Hank arrived injured in the hospital was a great scene. And the moment when Jesse tells Hank about it was also greatly written and performed.

The most chilling part to me was when Walt sees one the cousin that stayed alive, and he goes to the floor to go after him.

Gus coming to the hospital was another great idea and how he handled it all. great acting as well.

I also enjoyed all the Jesse moments in the lab because they were so funny. Including the one where Gale sees who his replacement is

Slower, But Still Fantastic!
g-bodyl10 September 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This is the eighth episode of the second season of Breaking Bad. Things are slower after two action-packed episodes, but that doesn't mean much because the story lines are practically pitch perfect. We get to see the drama that ensues after Hank's near-fatal shooting. Betsy Brandt as Marie, has a bigger role here and I think she nails her role as the grief-stricken wife. Once again, the acting is fantastic by everyone.

In this episode, "I See You," Hank is admitted to the hospital after shooting the Mexican cousins and is in critical condition. Marie blames the police and she even blames Walt, which angers Skylar. Meanwhile, Gale is told that he is no longer needed. Jesse becomes worried that Walt is spending his time mostly at the hospital. Finally, Walt realizes that the cousins may have been after him after viewing one of the cousin's actions in the hospital.

Overall, things have cooled down but this is still an episode worth watching for the dramatic moments. It's pretty neat to see Walt's reaction when he finds out the truth. It's going to be interesting to see what happens as we near the end. I rate this episode 9/10.

Great aftermath!
and_mikkelsen13 April 2023
This was a great way to continue off from the previous nervewracking episode! We all knew what happenned so there is a certain underlaying tension cause we are eagger to see how it pans out! Who makes it... and who doesn't!

We can only imagine what goes on inside Walts head! What he must be thinking, as he is remined that somehow it qll goes back to him! He knows.. but nobody else does!

This episode also shows how ruthless Gustavo is! He is a man who keeps his enemys close and does not do something without a plan! Some great scenes with him in this episode!

Otherwise a great episode that teaches you to also appreciate the small things!

Edgy

Warning: Spoilers
Another really fantastic episode. I thought it would be weak given the high of the previous instalment but it keeps the same quality. The action centres around the hospital but it's nonetheless edgy and surprising, particularly where the likes of Gus, Jesse and others play their part.

Waiting in hospital
Tweekums16 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
After the excitement of the previous episode things inevitably are a little calmer. As Jesse leaves the hospital he sees Hank being brought in; he is clearly in a bad way having been shot four times. Walt knows nothing of this till Jesse turns up at the new lab; when he finds out he rushes off to be with his family. Hank isn't the only person fighting for his life; one of his assailants is there too... and a lot of people hope he won't make it; the DEA want him dead for attacking Hank, Gus wants him dead before he can tell anybody that Gus had given the go ahead to kill Hank and Walt wants him dead because he works out the was one of Tuco's cousins. While Walt is in hospital questions start to be asked about why they aren't cooking meth; this leads to him getting caught in a lie; he tells Gus there are delays because of Gale's mistakes but Gus knows all about Walt's connection to Hank and even sees Walt in the hospital when he visits to give the DEA free food and offer a reward for others involved in the attack.

This might not have had the action of the previous episode but it was still gripping; particular highlights were when the DEA took Walt to see what Hank had done to his assailant and the man saw Walt looking through the door, disconnected his drips, got out of bed and tried to get to the door... despite having both his legs amputated and the scene where Walt meets Gus in the hospital and we don't know what his reaction to being lied to will be. It isn't all drama though; the mood is considerably lightened by Jesse's antics in the lab while he is waiting for Walt to return; seeing him inflate his protective suit and dance about was hilarious! He might not get the most screen time but this episode says a lot about Gus's character; we learn that he kept Walt in the dark about him knowing he had a relative in the DEA and while it isn't explicitly spelt out it looks as if pointing the cousins in the direction of Hank was part of a larger plan to rid himself of his reliance on the Mexican cartels; Giancarlo Esposito continues to impress as this mild mannered drug lord.

Warning: Spoilers
Juan bolsa getting killed, mike killing leonel salamanca, leonel crawling to walter- that episode was better than a lot of episodes.

Its was a bit slower than other episodes but i think that it ended with a very big closure of the twins and also Juan bolsa getting shot was very good.

Show Glides on a Brand New High, but Why is Jesse Suddenly Extra Goofy?
TheFearmakers30 November 2020
THESE are the good old days, the episodes before and leading up to this one, and the funniest dialogue is Walter telling the perfect partner Gale how imperfect he is while Jesse is goofier than a cartoon, for some reason... he seems to go in and out of being a total whackjob one minute, and then a brooding whiner the next. Still though, this is the peak of peaks here... at least for Season Three.

Another great episode
yahaira-729-69470111 May 2023
The family that guilts together stays together. Another desperate move by Hank to win his family back. He plays along with the family trying to support Marie and her grief about Hanks condition now that the Salamanca brothers tried to avenge the death of Tico. Hank rides this fine line being the drug cook best ever as Hisenberg and being the mousy yes man husband controlled by his wife the man eater Skyler. Her sister Marie is also a over controlling demanding wife to DEA Hank. She blames the world for her shortage of wealth , power and control. These women live vicariously through their men. Another rich episode the writing, acting and drama is excellant.

Less action, less entertainment, more flaws
stillworkingfortheknife23 November 2013
Events are significantly slowing down in this episode after we've got to see some tumultuous action scenes in its predecessor, "One Minute". This time around, we have some very interesting character scenes as an exchange and especially Giancarlo Esposito stands out in his role as everyman drug lord Gus Fring.

Disappointingly weak in "I See You" where the moments with Betsy Brandt, whose character Marie admittedly had to deal with a difficult subject, but she still didn't impress me at all and often stroke me as a video game character. Sadly, that's something that can be said several times during the conversations in this episode and over and above, I dislike the path the story takes at this point. Only a modicum of scenes were actually good in my opinion, namely Leonel Salamanca seeing Walt at the hospital, Jesse experiencing Hank's arrival at the same place, and Jonathan Banks' short yet awesome appearance. And as I've said before, Mr. Esposito is nothing less than outstanding in every single one of the scenes he's in.

Nonetheless, the bad parts prevail again in "I See You" and I found myself bored very often during the episode.

An unusual series
silverton-3795916 October 2020
This series is unusual in that all of the "good guy" characters are totally stupid and/or annoying in some aspect of their characterization while the story is engaging and the production is way above the usual TV fare. The acting is good, and the production values are very high, but the main "good" characters are odious. Walt is a bumbling, narcissistic liar, Jesse is a bumbling, self absorbed druggy imbecile, Hank is a bumbling drug warrior and his wife is a bumbling kleptomaniac.

Walt's wife is a lunatic who thinks that the world is hers to arrange, and Walt Jr. is so much like his mom that he's almost not even a separate person. Only the "bad" characters are even interesting.

The series will probably remain popular for years after the final episode airs. I even enjoy it, though I never could have followed it on TV because of the uninteresting good guys and the vapid family drama scenes. Watching it on DVD has made it possible for me to get through the entire series by virtue of the option to jump through the unlikable scenes.

Actually... I feel great.
Trey_Trebuchet19 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Really solid follow-up to a gripping episode.

I find it interesting that Walt spent a lot of time in the hosptial with his family, of all of the times he straight-up abandoned them for the cooking business. Goes to show that he really, truly is doing all of this for family, even if he is a total, inconsiderate prck about it.

It was nice to see Betsy Brant do more with her character than usual too. Her acting was pretty good!

I've not said this yet, but Gus is kind of a creepy dude. He's been doing everything by phone or public conversations, yet I've got a feeling he could obliterate you in a second. Giancarlo is very good as usual.

Highlights were-

the cousin crawling over to try to get Walt with his bleeding legs

Jesse seeing Hank in distress and just feeling like the luckiest man alive.

This has been a very solid season so far. It'll be interesting to see how it ends.

The hospital episode
bellino-angelo201416 December 2023
Jesse Pinkman is released from the hospital just when an ambulance arrives with Hank Schrader badly injured, probably a consequence of the showdown with the Salamanca brothers while Walt has trouble in explaining to Gale the reasons of his firing. Soon Walt rushes to the hospital, while Jesse stays wandering around in the new laboratory. Leonel Salamanca is still alive but without his legs and Walt is afraid that now also his family could be in danger; but after a while (probably the intervention of Gus Fring) Mike Ehrmantraut goes unnoticed in Leonel's room and poisons him with an injection. Soon after the doctor informs the White family that Hank will survive (to be continued...)

I guess that seeing Hank in hospital was quite the revenge if viewed from Jesse Pinkman's point of view, and I loved seeing Mike Ehrmantraut at work once again. Besides, in so many TV shows there is an episode set in an hospital, so why BREAKING BAD shouldn't have had one?

Now you see, now you don't
TheLittleSongbird8 June 2018
'Breaking Bad' is one of the most popular rated shows on IMDb, is one of those rarities where every season has either been very positively received or near-universally acclaimed critically and where all of my friends have said nothing but great things about.

Very few shows in recent memory had me so hooked from the very start that before the week was over the whole show had been watched, especially when for a lot of shows now airing watching one episode all the way through can be an endeavour. 'Breaking Bad' had that effect on me, and its reputation as one of the best, consistently brilliant and most addictive shows in many years (maybe even ever) is more than deserved in my eyes. Its weakest season is perhaps the first season, understandable as any show's first season is the one where things are still settling.

Actually everything is established remarkably from the very start, but once the writing and characterisation becomes even meatier the show reaches even higher levels.

"I See You" is not a Season 3, or 'Breaking Bad, high-point, but the slower and less-action-heavy approach to the episode is not really a hindrance. It is not a "taut" episode strictly speaking and other episodes of the season and show have more intensity. All that aside, "I See You" is still a great episode that in no way disgraces the show at all (far from it).

Visually, "I See You" is both stylish and beautiful, with photography and editing that are cinematic quality and put a lot of films today to shame, where there are a lot of visually beautiful ones but also some painfully amateurish looking ones. The music always has the appropriate mood, never too intrusive, never too muted.

The writing in "I See You" is a fine example of how to have a lot of style but also to have a lot of substance. The dialogue throughout is thought-provoking and tense, while also have a darkly wicked sense of humour, nail-biting tension and heart-tugging pathos. The story is texturally rich, intimate, tense and layered, with the pace of it consistently deliberate but taut.

Can't say anything bad about the acting. Bryan Cranston is phenomenal as one of the most fascinating anti-heroes, or even of any kind of character, in either film or television. Aaron Paul has never been better and Anna Gunn is affecting. Dean Norris is once again terrific, he and the character of Hank add a good deal. The same thing goes for Giancarlo Esposito. The characters are compelling in their realism and the episode is strongly directed.

Overall, not as amazing as the previous two episodes but still great quality. 9/10 Bethany Cox
