BEGGARS CAN'T BE CHOOSY
nogodnomasters4 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Madcow is a spoof of the Frankenstein film. In this version a cow's head is attached to a super human body. This creature secures a chain saw and goes around killing people. The film makes fun of movie techniques used in action and horror films. It was at times amusing, but never a belly laugh. The girl reading her lines from a clipboard I thought was the best part.

Guide: F-word, nudity (Lola the body double)

South African comedy horror

Warning: Spoilers
MAD COW is a shot on video comedy horror film, made in South Africa for a change. Thus we have some interesting locations including a hunting lodge rather than the usual American or British woodland. I suppose you could class this film in the same vein as the likes of EVIL ALIENS, a film I thought was terrible but which looks pretty decent compared to these homemade stinkers.

And MAD COW does stink, unfortunately. It's about a bunch of characters menaced by a human-cow hybrid, which is literally a guy wearing a cow head. Various weapons are used in the cheap gore scenes, while the script tries very hard indeed to be funny but fails miserably at all times. No surprise that Troma put this out, as with the poor direction and campy performances this is the typical Troma concoction and simply not worth the bother of watching.

Who did this?

This is probably the worst idea ever. The movie has no story, terrible acting, and looks like it was written by 10 year olds. Don't waste your time.

it's goal: cult classic, it's fate: laughing stock

Mad Cow was only somewhat entertaining. Aside from the 2 minutes of suspense, it was ridiculously stupid and poorly written.

It reminds me of the American film Mad Cow released in 2008 which was equally as poorly made.

I think it reaches out to only a very specific and very small population. you have to be alright with fake looking gore and borderline gore porn. And even then, it leaves quite a lot to be desired.

The filmmakers should have invested in cg rather than poor actors who were paid more than their lack of talent warranted.

The whole movie was very awkward as though it was deliberately trying to be bad. Anybody who would waste time and money to make (and moviegoers-to watch) something like this is clearly mental.

Crazy, hilarious and totally MAD

Warning: Spoilers
Mad Cow is a fast and furious comedy horror movie with the accent on the comedy. It's like a surreal roller coaster ride through horror and action movies. Although the movie is low budget, it wins the viewer over with charm, and lots and lots of gags.

The plot is less important than the insane set pieces, but it centres around a mad scientist out to put the head of a cow on a human body, but of course it all goes wrong, and the fall out is a ridiculous take on action / monster flicks that unfolds into a zombie battle scene. It's fun to watch and I bet it was a scream shooting it.

I watched a 'pre-screener' from a friend who went to Cannes where the film screened, he said there was a scrum of people trying to get in to see the film in a tiny theatre and a guy wandering round dressed as Mad Cow.

If you're out for gore and realistic special effects forget it, if you want utterly insane, and sometimes shocking laughs then this is for you. weird and wonderful.

"Today's The Day I Toast Your Sardines..., Big Time!"...

MAD COW is a South African horror / comedy released through Troma. It's overflowing with idiot characters, absurd sight gags, awful jokes, and gushy, gory yuck.

Two factors raise it above the sum of its schlocky, cheeeze-filled parts: #1- Tanya van Graan. She's so very good at being so very bad, as the muddleheaded Charlize! She's funny and ties the whole mess together. #2- It's not typical of a Troma movie. At all. It's actually quite humorous in places, unlike the vast majority of Troma's sub-sludge output.

Is it a magnificent, classic masterpiece? Of course not! That would be silly! However, it is tolerable, even enjoyable, and, all things considered, that's a miracle!

Now, don't misunderstand. There are some stretches of dullness that boggle the mind. It's just that in spite of this, it somehow works!

The plot is best described as FRANKENSTEIN meets THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE, mixed with dollops of AIRPLANE!, NAKED GUN, etc., all pickled in some unholy, bovine solution.

A killer cow-man is created through mad science, resulting in bloody mayhem, and sophomoric stupidity on a grand scale.

So, if you're in the mooood for udder nonsense, here you go!

WARNING: This movie contains a musical number, sausage bombs, and a full-on human / cow hybrid, zombie assault!...

Love Monty Python? You'll love Mad Cow.
rebeccmorris28 September 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I just watched Mad Cow for the first time and I loved it.

No, its not CGI or made on a multi million dollar budget.

BUT...yes, it is funny! Its one of those indie films that given the chance could rise to be a cult classic. Clever writing gives this script the edge above other comedy horror films.

And the best part? Its written in this classic Monty Python mantra that makes you bust a gut with every line. I've actually seen it a couple of times and am amazed on the things I pick up on the second or third time around.

It also doesn't hurt that there is a lot of eye candy in this film...sure to please all.

Add some of the ingredients of Troma + Airplane + Bad Taste + Monty Python and you get Mad Cow!
kalvandavid21 January 2020
This is the 1st movie i can remember where virtually every scene and dialogue has a pun, joke, or some sort of sarcasm. Some of the cheeziest acting and sound effects {reminds me alot of Troma films), and just like the comedy "Airplane", it needs to watched several times (including the backgrounds) to catch every joke (even if some of them are really bad)..

If i had to give the best line...that would be almost impossible because there are at least 50 i can find (some originals and some copies of famous movies). Here's just one of my favorite lines.... "We contacted the department of special enforcement backup units for backup..."LOL! All of the actors (especially the lead undercover officer) are brilliant, whether over acting, underacting, or (in one scene), reading a script (done on purpose). Even though there are some terrible jokes, they are just as many good ones and i would reccommend this (whether you like cheap low budget comedies or not). Oh, i almost forgot...it's also a horror film.
