Back to the future

Warning: Spoilers
Supernatural decides to take us on a crazy ride back to the wild west where Sam and Dean have to go to the year 1861 to get phoenix ash that can kill the Mother of All.

The episode was hilarious and the directing and writing were great. Jensen as always was great portraying Dean's childish giddiness and excitement as he goes on his fantasy tour back in time and his disappointment when everything turned out not being as cool as the movies. It's always good to see Dean having fun again doing a job.

Sam too had the chance to meet his hunter idol Samuel Colt and lecture him about life as a hunter, showing a great level of maturity. There couldn't have been anyone better for the role of Samuel Colt more than Sam Hennings. I also appreciated the care for details as Dean dropped the colt and didn't take it with him because otherwise he would have changed the whole course of events.

We got the chance to know a little bit more about the war in Heaven and the power of the souls. I loved that Bobby didn't think twice when he jeopardized his own life to bring the boys back to the present time. And I liked that Cas chose Bobby's house as refuge when he needed a safe place to hide.

Finally, I felt so sad about the Phoenix but I guess he had to die anyway to use his ashes to kill the Mother.

I really liked the Frontierland episode!

Warning: Spoilers
I really liked the "Frontierland" episode! The title sounds like the game from Facebook (frontierville). What does a series producer do after the six seasons and is running out of ideas? Reinvent themselves! Sam and Dean can only go to so many towns and hunt ghosts and monsters. However, I would love to see the two characters battle a swap monster, but that is besides the point! Sam and Dean find the Campbell's family library. In order to kill a present beast, the boys have to time travel to the past in order to get some materials. The episode pays homage to Back to the Future 3 by using many of the movie's ideas including the movies ending. Dean's character is quite humorous with a few jokes about clothing and what the old west was really like. Watch out for horse poop! I give "Frontierland 10 out of 10!

The Magnificent Dean

Ackles has such great comedic timing. He's nothing short of genius in this wonderful episode that pays homage to classic westerns. Terrific performances by Sam Hennings (Samuel Colt) and Stephen Bradley Jones (demon cowboy). Terrific sound track by Jay Gruska! Best music ever and fantastic ending This is one episode I will watch again and again. Masterpiece.

Season 6 will definitely be remembered for great comedy.

Finally got to the natural conclusion
CubsandCulture9 April 2020
The show had ever so slight western vibe to it-traveling around the American west, standoffs etc.-that comes and goes throughout its run. Frontierland is an episodes that could have happened earlier but the show needed to finally go full blown western. This episodes does everything you would expect with the concept and it was delightful to seen Dean as a cowboy/gunslinger. The Phoenix is one of the better monsters in the season and the episode is nice slice of Americana.

Meet Samuel Colt
claudio_carvalho9 December 2012
Dean and Sam learn in Samuel Colt's diary that ashes of a Phoenix may defeat Eve and they summon Castiel to send them back to 1861, to Sunrise, Wyoming, where they can meet Samuel Colt and get the ashes. Casteil gives twenty-four hours to the brothers to get what they want; otherwise their return may be dangerous. Will the brothers be well succeeded in their intent?

"Frontierland" is another witty episode of "Supernatural", this time with a joke with Clint Eastwood and a conclusion à la "Back to the Future 3". My vote is eight.

One of the best experiences I've ever had watching a show

I'm a great fan of Western so when I saw the opening scene I really wished the episode would be about (Sam and) Dean traveling back in time. And it was! I've gotta admit, throughout the entire episode I felt overjoyed like a kid opening the first present on Christmas. Yes, it's a satire, but this is as close to perfection as it gets for a Western lover like myself.

This show gets me good, I'm not lying when I say I had my mouth open since the delivery guy appeared at the doorstep till the very end.

Dean is adorable here

Good premise and we get more of Castiel and what's he been upto Dean definitely shines here I never liked the whole Samuel Colt thing, why is there a devils gate? Why is there only one gun? Why did he not build more? Let me gues literal dues ex machina... Anyway they made this premise in their first season, i guess they didn't think it through, it just irks me. And then the bigotry of Dean, sure this phoenix killed an innocent judge and sheriff but even if he hadn't, even if they deserved to die, Dean doesn't think something not human deserves to live, he has no problem killing one for the greater good but not a human.
