Oh dear, Jena isn't popular. YOU GO GIRL!!
thejdrage8 June 2022
This is a True Crime Story that's a bit off kilter. Jena Friedman is smart and can volley with the best of them - except Gloria Allred. HA! Gloria was having none of Jena's volley's, but did hit the answers back very firmly and wisely. I appreciated the way Jena handled being handled by Allred.

Friedman IS funny and witty. Maybe a bit too much at times. But that's her and this is her so, so take it or don't watch it - your choice.

I was impressed with how the men took her volleys - very well!

Jena - Maybe you should become a lawyer. Have you thought about it? I see a program in it for you!!!

The show delivers what the title promises.
dookie4324 January 2023
In each episode, you get to hear true villains and sociopaths try to justify the harm they do to others, many times without a sense of self-awareness.

It reminds me of The Act Of Killing (2012), where Indonesian death squad members try to go about normal life, even though they committed genocide a generation earlier.

The interviewee's aren't debating with Jena Friedman, they're debating with the elephant in the room and Friedman is just picking out ridiculous inconsistencies.

Sorry if the "I love true crime, but this...." critics don't get it. There is no appreciation for "the process". Many of these people got away with their crimes. This show is about the crazy things obvious criminals tell others after the fact. It's very real and dark.

Let's focus on the content and the material of the show instead of the host. Television is just that. The suspennsion of disbelief. As a survivor of true crime, I can tell you that if these people are like me, they do not want to relive the experience by talking about it with her or anyone else. I have been approached several times to tell my story and I don't want to relive it. Focus instead on the miscarriage of justice and what you can do to prevent these things from happening to you or your loved ones and pray that you don't end up like me or the survivors on the show. Bottom line if you don't like the show ok simple! Don't watch it.

Love the show and HOST!
crystalfaith-453247 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Jena asks some real questions that the average person would ask and doesn't let up on her stance. I love the fact that she sticks to the point of the show.... Indefensible! She pokes so many holes in the system and how it's enforced! The one guy she interviewed and asked him if he was familiar with Jena Friedman while interviewing him, he responded with no...that speaks so much! She really brings to light the flaws in out justice system and she is so sassy, sarcastic and blatantly blunt! I am still in awe of how some of the decisions were made in the court about several cases Jena cover in season one. Completely baffling is the best description of some of the defenses that were used. A twinky defense was mentioned, I mean really! Keep up the amazing job you're doing Jena!

Jena is absolutely hilarious!
leighharris-463031 June 2023
I really hope this show continues to air. I have read the negative reviews and I think that the negative reviews stim from people who don't get sarcasm. She is blunt, honest to the point that puts you on the spot. It is refreshing to see her ability to be direct and put a hilarious sarcastic spin on the interviews. I was born and raised a smart butt, after my dad. It is a fabulous quality and socks that most people can't handle it. People need to just relax and enjoy her! Watching the facial expressions, stuttering, scrambling to make excuses for why they didn't do their job well. It's about time someone had the nerve to say it on TV. My favorite crime show ever! Thank you Jena!

Have any of you heard of Satire?
cejsjngb9 January 2024
Wow! Look at all the hate to the host!

It's rather gross. Jenna Friedman is interested in the insane injustice that is prevalent in our legal system. These are slightly satirical because each episode topic is so infuriating! There has to be a bit of relief from how shocking some of this is. She's not doing it in a super feminist or a bleeding heart liberal way. Why on earth would so many true crime fans hate her!!? She's having a bit of fun in some of her interviews. Sometimes it is uncomfortable when she is direct, but she has asked the hard questions to famous legal celebrities that I want them to answer!

This is a great show. It's so entertaining. I wish these episodes were much longer and in-depth.

I couldn't believe the aggressive hate for a 20min, 13 episode show that is meant to poke at some real insanity in our current justice system. This is a show that exists only in the mind of the host. It was her idea, so how can you get rid of the host when you like the show? Obnoxious women on women hate is what I'm getting. Also probably some pro-defense bias, too.

It is just so sad how many ppl missed the whole point of the show due to their trite pettiness/female jealousy/ political belief bias.

Jena is a GREAT host, she's hilarious and quick witted
Amanda-mm-dc1 February 2024
If you're looking for something that tries to solve a case or uncover the truth this isn't really for you. Jena interviews lawmakers and lawyers in such a way to make a joke out of their ignorance. She's like a smart Borat. She really tries to show how these men- lawmakers and lawyers- have really done society and in particular women and minorities wrong. It's so liberating to see these men being exposed for their flagrant misogyny. It's a very relatable and resonating show. As for the comments saying they need a new host, I think maybe they just don't find the show as liberating and relatable as I do.

Get a different host
berrybrandy25 September 2022
I actually don't mind the sarcasm the host brings... but her lisp is super annoying!!! (Dear lord have we hit the real-life Harrison Bergeron moment of hosts that aren't the best?😬) Also, she's super agressive and condescending in her interviewing.... and with a more professional interviewer, they could prob have a better outcome and more thoughtful discussions. This would make it a much better series!

But I gave it a higher score than 1-for-the-awful-host because I do like the material and what it's trying to expose! With a better and more professional presenter, this could actually be a great series.

Get a new host.
cboling864 May 2022
I like the humor.. it's just not in the show.. sorry. Get a new host who actually has some empathy to the victims and victims families and friends. I'd give the show more stars if it was someone different or if she took it more seriously. Which I know she's a comedian, so that's what she's supposed to do, but I just don't enjoy it on this show. I enjoyed Hilarie on her birthday episodes.

How to make a true crime series terrible
roo-943309 May 2022
The show host is terrible. Her approach is just not good.

"She digs deep to learn how these cases reveal the flaws in our sometimes dysfunctional criminal justice system." is what in the description of the show but she's biased, confrontational and insensitive to the people she's meeting which is why she's not getting much information out of them, so much for digging deep to reveal injustice.

I guess she's trying to be funny but it's just not funny at all.

I was really looking forward to some more true crime TV shows, guess i'll have to keep waiting for something watchable.

Get rid of the host
mariadragonella13 November 2022
I couldn't even get beyond S01E01. She seems to have come to a conclusion about what she hopes to investigate even before she has started. She may be digging at the truth, and that is commendable, but you can see that she already has a bias and is pushing her own theory before unfolding the facts. The tone of flippancy and sarcasm is appalling. Along with, or maybe because of, her absolute disdain for the people she interview. She seems to be full of conceit that it overwhelms any of the validity of what she is trying to prove. It might be better if someone else were to do the narrative. If only for that annoying voice.

JENA FRIEDMAN
jreeders51815 June 2023
Goes whole hog in being a terrible interviewer. I do not know why they allowed this to happen. She doesn't interview people, she talks over them when they are giving answers. She interupts their answers when they are trying to make a point she doesn't agree with. One wonders who the producers are that they think this would work. I got as far as Junk Science and decided this is more like watching the Kardashians fight over a blouse then an investigative reporter trying to get to the truth. I like some true crime shows but this will never be one of them as long as she remains the host. Sickening shot at trying to be grandoise.

There is no defense for True Crime Story: Indefensible
cdeanroane17 November 2022
Not since Crime Scene Confidential with Alina Burroughs that aired on Discovery + and Investigation Discovery last season, has there been a true crime series this bad! Jena Friedman as host rates as one of the worse host of all time on a true crime show. Her personal feeling of what was or was not done by the police or courts are just a waste of time! Just a review of Jena Friedman credits shows she really unqualified to host a true crime show! Jena is a third rate actress and just as bad caliber producer of shows! Another case of someone who created a podcast, then feels they are qualified to produce and star in a TV series! If you like true crime shows give this horrid attempt at a true crime show a big pass! It says in the description of this show that it is " It's less of a whodunit and more of a "Why does this keep happening?" show. She digs deep to learn how these cases reveal the flaws in our sometimes dysfunctional criminal justice system." Which clues one in on that is more of cherry picking stores that will high light what Jena Friedman feels outcome is not what she would have liked! This is not a true crime show but a single person finding true crimes where the final verdict was not to Jena's liking!

The host is brutal
stky-8653713 May 2022
The host is not engaging and her lack of empathy is alienating which causes her interviewees to clam up. Get a new host and make the show interesting. What a colossal waste of time.

I love true crime!
ewhworth29 October 2022
I watch true crime and mystery much of the time. I can really get behind hard hitting journalism, asking the tough questions. This ain't it! The host is flippant, snarky and plainly out to pick a fight. She is not after truth. It's self evident she is rating motivated and just totally misses the mark. A more professional impartial interviewer is absolutely required if this show is to be successful. I agree with much of the data presented. The questions are being asked, but it's almost as if she's letting the interviewee off by being abusive and giving them justification to walk away. This show has potential but currently is riding a dying horse.

Biased
volker-4923 March 2024
I must apologize, but my impression here is that we're dealing with an individual who fancies themselves as a contemporary Joan of Arc, crafting narratives devoid of any form of opposition-a behavior that borders on disrespectful and is tinged with anger. Enduring such a presentation becomes a challenge; beyond five minutes, it becomes nearly unbearable. This person seems to be completely disinterested in seeking the truth or understanding different perspectives. Instead, their focus appears to be solely on identifying and pointing out flaws, even when these flaws cannot be substantiated or verified. The overall effect is something that's not just difficult to watch but also devoid of entertainment value. The lack of engaging content, combined with a seemingly relentless negativity, renders the whole experience unwatchable and entirely unentertaining.

Good production value. Could be good but writers and host are terrible
ullasea20 June 2023
The host starts off the first episode saying and then he stopped poking her. Trying to get a laugh within the first minute of a true crime series is not what anyone wants. The fact that they even thought that was funny and put that in says a lot.

The host is terrible. I mean terrible. The trying to be cool act she puts on his ridiculous. Being rude to guests during interviews is off putting. The lisp doesn't help.

This could be really good. With the production value it seems like they have some money behind it and the visuals are good except for the host. Whoever the writer is that decided on some of the way the show steers is awful. Aesthetically it's good looking and the stories seem really interesting however the way that they're presenting it is not good.

The name of the show is on point.
rufusmcd19 June 2023
Whoever cast this very annoying woman should never be hired to cast for another show again. Everyone enjoys listening to someone who thinks they're the smartest person on earth don't they? No.... they don't. The number one rule of journalism ( if you can call this woman a journalist) is the show is not about you. Subtlety is the key. Instead being on the side of whats right you wind up feeling sorry for the people she interviews no matter who they are or what their role in the story is. There is no defense for the interviewer or the person who cast her. Or whoever decided there's needs to be a certain number of characters in a review.
