TGS Hates Women (#5.16)
ComedyFan201014 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
TGS is accused of hating women and the new writer shows off a lot of negative female stereotypes that irritate Liz. Jack has a new rival, Kayle Hooper a teenager who may inherit Kabletown so he does his best to make her not be interested in television by getting her closer to marine biology.

Wonderful episode. The whole story of Jack battling a kid was hilarious, especially with the twist at the end when it turns out she was playing him as well, getting him closer to his childhood dreams. We need more of her! And Chloë Grace Moretz did a great job. The school scene was a masterpiece, both of writing an acting.

A Brilliant Episode, My Favorite

Warning: Spoilers
I keep coming back to this episode because it is so cleverly written. Jack thinks he is sabotaging his teenage future rival Kaylie Hooper, but finds out *she* is the one playing him.

Liz is trying to help "sexy baby" writer Abby Flynn, while Jenna schemes to crush Abby. In the end, Liz unwittingly does the crushing. Her "help" was as effective as Jenna's nastiness.

Three male writers get to play different versions of themselves. Even Sue is charmed by Abby.

I can't help gushing praise for this episode. I have the show purchased on my PS3 and iPad, so I watch it now and then. I love the short piece of music that plays after the Kaylie / Jack confrontation.

Chloe Grace Moritz does a beautiful job as Kaylie Hooper, especially when she drops the teenager act and reveals her true self. Cristin Milioti is wonderfully over-the-top as Abby. Liz is humbled by her mistake, yet ends up smugly back in her usual role.

The title is ironic because Liz tries to refute the accusation, only to be confronted with the same accusation from Abby.

Low-key dark episode
lobstersausage-5365830 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Let me state, up-front, that I love this episode, so what follows is out of sheer love and reverence. This episode was hilariously dark, in a "Michael O'Donahue" sort-of-way. At one point, Kenneth alludes to newsman "Brian Williams" using the skull of former NBC celebrity, and actual chimpanzee, J. Fred Muggs, as a personal toilet. My jaw dropped, my finger swiftly found the pause button, and my head turned, slowly and in awe, towards my wife to confirm that I did just hear what I heard. Later, disturbing implications are brought to the fore when Jenna brags on her "baby talk" game, where it hard cuts to a scene of Jenna at a bar speaking like an infant, surrounded by lots of horny men. Yeah, a lot to unpack there.

Snowy New York City

Warning: Spoilers
Cristin Milioti plays a new writer who is more than she seems, and the twist is something to behold. I'm impressed that Cristin was able to act in the cold of New York winter in her costume, and didn't get pneumonia thankfully.

It's easy to forget that 30 Rock and Aaron Sorkin's Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip debuted on NBC at the same time. Conventional wisdom was that Sorkin's powerhouse series be the one that would survive the first season, with 30 Rock being a one season wonder. But history has proved otherwise.
