Comedy Central has passed on the pilot Playing With Guns. This is the second time the Varsity Pictures/Lionsgate TV project about two buddies-turned-cops has found itself in that position. Last year, it went to pilot at Spike TV but wasn't picked up to series. Then early this year, Spike's sister Viacom network, Comedy Central, greenlighted to pilot a retooled version of the show with Ethan Suplee joining original star Danny Masterson as the second lead. Playing With Guns was one of three pilots in serious consideration at the network, along with The Nick Show Kroll and an untitled series starring MadTV alum Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele. The last two were picked up to series last month.

That ’70s Show star Danny Masterson’s Playing With Guns project has found a new home: Comedy Central, which just greenlit a pilot.
This marks the second time the show’s pilot has been ordered. The first was last April, back when Spike TV was developing the show. Since, the show has been reworked (wild guess: more funny?) and re-cast (Ethan Suplee from My Name Is Earl joins), and is now being re-shot for a new network.

Playing with Guns has been picked up to pilot... again. The project, which shot a pilot for Spike TV last year but didn't make the cut to series, has now been greenlighted by another Viacom network, Comedy Central. Back is star Danny Masterson and producers Varsity Pictures and Lionsgate TV as well as writers Bob Castrone, Brian Levin and Jason Zumwalt. But now, Masterson is joined by a new co-lead, My Name Is Earl's Ethan Suplee, who replaces Joey Kern. Playing with Guns centers on two best friends (Masterson, Suplee) who had no idea what they wanted to be when they grew up, so they decided to sign up for a job that allows them to hang out together, run red lights, and best of all -- play with guns. So they became cops, patrolling the suburban town they grew up in and trying to get the most out...

With the economy in the tank, Spike TV is developing several comedy projects that find pathos and humor in underachievement.
The network has five new half-hours in the works to bulk up its fledgling scripted slate (along with an equal number of unscripted projects). The new half-hours feature struggling men wanting more out of life -- or to just slack off.
"From a comedy perspective, rooting for the underdog always works," said Kevin Kay, Spike TV president.
The projects also tackle several settings that have proven to be comedic fodder in the past. There are pilots set in the world of golf, the military and at a casino, to cite a few.
The network hopes to pick up two of the projects to series, one as a companion to its first comedy series, "Blue Mountain State," which was renewed for a second season in February.

You don't have to be a Louisiana native to be worried about the oil spill drifting toward its shores right now, and Ken Jeong and Christina Applegate both had the potential natural disaster on their minds today, as well as in their tweets.
Elsewhere in Twitter-Wood, TwitPic posting was a bit lighter, but Danny Masterson offered a behind-the-scenes look at his new Spike TV show "Playing With Guns" and Kim Kardashian showed what it looks like when she and her sister have a "Beach Bunny Party" together. It's all noted with Jon Hurwitz's thoughts on Sandra Bullock's child and the status of "Toy Story 3" in Twitter-Wood for April 29, 2010.

@kenjeong I hope the oil spill in my adopted home state will be contained soon.

Dr. Drew Pinsky will continue his reality brand by forming his own production company. He'll produce more unscripted shows, including the pilot "Estranged With Dr. Drew," which features couples who must decided if this is it for them or if they'll reconcile. Exclusive: Spike TV has greenlighted Kings By Nights, a comedy presentation from FremantleMedia. The project, about three guys who start a casino in their office at night, was written by Ben and Dan Newmark. The two brothers got their break four years ago when they wrote a dramedy spec script, Wilton, and shot it as a do-it-yourself pilot starring their friends. The footage eventually got them a script deal at the CW. Richie Keen will direct the Kings By Nights presentation, which will film in June. Spike also recently greenlighted the comedy pilot Playing With Guns starring Danny Masterson and [...]...
