Learn more- With just a couple of weeks remaining in the competition, it was time to see who would make it to the semifinals in Season 10 of "Dancing with the Stars."
Head judge Len Goodman started the night with his recap of Monday's performances, and he said Evan & Anna were split over the course of the night. He called Chad & Cheryl the "pretenders" of the competition, at this point. He loved Erin & Maks' Argentine tango, but wasn't wild about the rumba. He said it was time for Niecy to turn it up, and used words like "mesmerized" and "genius" to describe Nicole & Derek's two dances.
Play it again...: Len asked to see the 1950s-inspired paso doble from Nicole & Derek, which he called the "dance of the season and possibly the dance of all 10 seasons."
Be our guests: Gipsy Kings performed their Spanish version of "You've Got a Friend in Me," which will be featured in the upcoming animated movie, "Toy Story 3." The band returned later to perform its best-known hit, "Bamboleo."
Later, the show kicked off its first-ever college dance competition that pitted UC San Diego against Purdue University. UCSD went first and scored 24 points, earning positive comments from the judges for their group samba. Purdue's team mambo wasn't quite as polished and earned a 22 from the judges.
This is 'DanceCenter': Kenny Mayne, Jerry Rice and Len were back for this season's segment of "DanceCenter." The only decent highlight was a rundown of the beautiful ladies Derek Hough has gotten a chance to dance with in recent seasons: Shannon Elizabeth, Brooke Burke, Joanna Krupa, Mark Ballas.
In the second half of "DanceCenter," Jerry, Kenny and Len fell asleep during a clip of Evan's monotone speech about how excited he was. Kenny also took a little shot at his ESPN colleague Erin Andrews for always referring to Maks' "Russian." He's from Ukraine. "Next time you visit one of those college campuses there," he said to the college sports sideline reporter, "stop by a geography hall."
Finally, some results: The couple revealed to have made it into next week's semifinals was ... Nicole & Derek. The first couple in the bottom two was Chad & Cheryl.
The next couple in the semifinals was ... Evan & Anna. That left Erin & Maks and Niecy & Louis waiting to see which of them was safe and which would join Chad & Cheryl in the bottom two.
The next couple moving into next week's semifinals was Erin & Maks, which meant Niecy & Louis were in the bottom two with Chad & Cheryl.
Finally, the couple with the lowest overall total, and therefore leaving the show was ... Niecy & Louis.
