Obsessed With This Episode
burisam11 September 2010
Warning: Spoilers
'Obsession' revolves around Anthony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) display a more mature and emotional side of himself as he becomes 'obsessed' with Dana Hutton (Ashley Scott), A reporter for ZNN who's brother was murdered previously.

The score throughout the whole episode is absolutely beautiful and I would like to compliment Stefan Svensson on how it was one the most lovely pieces used throughout the series... It captured the emotions of the characters and kept the mood throughout the episode.

The episode is quite intriguing with a unique storyline which has the audience, both emotionally and excited, every single minute along the way. The case itself was very intriguing being quite different and the story Ducky tells us is quite interesting about the origin of which the weapon came from.

As in relation to the character, Anthony DiNozzo, a magnificent portrayal by Michael Weatherly is fulfilled to a high standard. The lighting used in those moments - where he's watching videos of Dana, wondering where she is and playing the piano is done - in a well manner to keep a gradual darkness of the emotional, mature side he is hiding deep down inside underneath. Some criticized his behavior as Out Of Character (OCC) but it tend to be a development of the character in my opinion.

Wonderful casting, brilliant acting, funny humor, intriguing storyline, beautiful score, new knowledge... It's a wonderful episode that I definitely recommend viewing!

Psycho Tony

It seems to us like the episode just starts out stupid and never really leaves the path.

At 00:09 - the ambulance doesn't back into the emergency entrance.

An otherwise good episode.... Warning: Spoilers
Ruined by an obnoxious Abby, an equally obnoxious lawyer, and the continuing plot development of Special Agent Gibbs having a not so special past history, namely a cold blooded assassination. Sure, I know, it's not easy for writers to keep coming up with interesting police/crime adventures for a police/crime show, so they try to work in some prime time soap opera plots quality plots. Edit out Abby's childish behavior, Hart's continuing harassment of Gibbs, and the flashbacks to Gibb's unauthorized assassination in Mexico and you get an interesting who-done-it-and-how plot.

It's an episode that is not a waste of time, but all of the soap opera style nonsense down grades it from about 8 stars to 6.

The team missed way too many things, they aren't that dumb. Spoiler

Warning: Spoilers
I felt this episode was very weak in plotting.

Spoilers follow:

The murder weapon was recognizable to me as soon as I saw the little metal ball. I am no forensic expert, I just watch 60 Minutes, but they were all baffled.

The missing money was hidden in a book store by a man who was a book lover. No one, from the killer to the team thought to look at the books, especially the ones placed in a special cabinet? It would have been the first thing I would have checked, and I am not a government agent or a KGB spy.

Just a Bit Off the Usual Quality of Most Episodes
FrankFaz13 September 2018
I love Rena Sofer but her character on NCIS seems to contrived, plastic and fake. The biggest problem I have with this episode, however, is Tony's obsession with someone he's never met. If I were Gibbs I would be concerned about Di Nozzo's mental stability given the high level of performance required by NCIS agents. It's just too far fetched to be believable.
