STHANIYA SAMBAAD , the best film of 'modern times'.

Amnesia can not let me forget THE Partition of Bengal. Ritwik Ghatak reminds me of that. From that point of view STHANIYA SAMBAAD "somnumbulises" us. Under today's 'post modern' condition this film help me understand the raw position of 'colonisation' & the 'colonised' modern subject of free market. Very subtle, minimalist, brilliantly crafted this film foregrounds the complex (perplexed) nature of characters & spaces with a lot of shades. Nostalgic, sentimental are the words this work of art does not fit into. This film does not avoid politics, history, context. It rather avoids 'causality', teleological approach. The film deals with 'developmental' rhetoric in a masterly manner (e.g. (G)lobal (V)illage Academy, while the 'V' is pronounced as BHI by a new-Bengali-'developer'). This film challenges 'developmentality' too. Nonadanga, new town come into existence flesh & blood to me through the film. It really captures the CHANGING PRESENT of the global south. I've seen the film 3 times. Can see many times more.
