This show inspires me to be better - do better

Not often do you find a TV broadcast that effectively tells the "how", "why" and "what for" stories of ordinary people who are reaping extra-ordinary rewards from simply lightening their own carbon footprint. Personally, I eat better, have started growing my own food, and think more about the growing sustainable choices available to me. Corny but true: I always feel inspired after watching an episode.

Creating a Great Garden of Your Own
barryrd21 February 2022
The episode I viewed was titled Redeeming Your Ground. The idea of making your yard a space that is welcoming, sustainable and most of all, your personal creation appeals to my sense of what gardening is about. It was inspiring to see what the homeowners have built for themselves and their two children. They started with a large home with a good sized piece of land that sat begging for a buyer. The house and its garden had fallen into a such a state that no one wanted to take it on but this couple could see the possibilities and bought the place. After finishing a lot of inside projects in his new house, the husband/father found himself in his yard often. It was where he could relax and be himself and get away from the daily cares and conflicts that can drag us down. One idea led to another as they added shrubs, vegetables, play areas, deck and pergola, and even a small chicken farm. I also liked the idea of showing the program without commercial interruptions. It was clear that the owners had a fair amount of imagination, home improvement know-how and the money to make their dreams come true. This is certainly not true of every homeowner but we can look at what our own ground has to offer and open ourselves to new ideas. In this case, the positive outcomes seemed to spur more momentum. This show is one example of how with imagination and skill, we can make a garden of our own.
