- The crime lab reluctantly brings in imprisoned serial killer Nate Haskell after he claims to know the identity of "Dr. Jeckyll." Meanwhile, clues revealing his next and perhaps final victim are mailed to Dr. Langston.
- Serial killer Nate Haskell enjoys extorting favors and toying with Langston in exchange for information which may help catch Dr. Jekyll. His tips prove valid, leading first to a closed Italian restaurant, then to Giovanni 'Papa' DiMasa's. There the team finds itself in acute physical danger, Nick is even badly shot, while the psychopath proves shockingly flimsy-motivated.—KGF Vissers
- After the phone call from the prison of Nate Haskell to Langston, Catherine succeeds to bring the serial-killer to the precinct despite Brass' opinion. He exchanges information about the identity of Dr. Jekyll to Langs per meal of his taste and lap dance. Now the CSI have leads to be followed to find the notorious serial-killer.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- "CSI" - "Meat Jekyll" - May 20, 2010
It's daytime in Vegas and a police escort is bringing in the notorious Dick and Jane Killer Nate Haskell to the crime lab.
Brass is majorly PO'ed that this decision did not go through him and Catherine went over his head. Ray says Haskell has information on Jekyll and if he's uncooperative they'll send him back post haste.
Haskell parries and thrusts with them- needling them for naming the killer Jekyll when that was the good guy in the Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde equation- but eventually gives up that he has a souvenir from the night he met his fellow killer, although he didn't know that's who he was at the time.
The gang pulls out Haskell's old evidence and finds a piece of bow tie pasta with a single spaghetti string cincher, which looks exactly like the bow tie that Jekyll tied in his first victim. It turns out Haskell had dinner at a restaurant the same night as most of Jekyll's victims and actually got to meet the chef aka the killer. We see a grainy flashback of this complete with the piano player, the rich guy, and the engineer. Jekyll's face is blurred.
(In the course of the early part of the investigation we subtly learn that Catherine and Vartan are indeed dating as they murmur over coffee about not wanting to get out of bed that morning. Nick overhears and gently gives her a hard time.)
He can't cough up a name, and demands a steak dinner for anymore info, but they get to investigating and discover it was a place called Venetti's. The place has fallen into disrepair but it has one of those walls of photos with regular customers and all of the victims are there.
Ray goes back with a list of employee names but before Haskell will cough it up he has more request, a stripper. (He's serving two life sentence so he's trying to maximize his enjoyment outside his sell.) Halfway through the dance Ray forces him to pick a name and Haskell picks a guy who's been in jail for the last five years. Brass is annoyed that he continues to mess with them but Ray knows it's some kind of clue.
Ray receives a package from his dad, whose been dead for ten years. Before opening it they scan to make sure it's not a bomb. Inside is a weird bundle from Jekyll including Ray's old CSI ID - stolen when Jekyll knocked him out- some weird looking beef (human??) jerky, and some weird drawings on the meat and a threat. It also has the numbers of John Doe in the morgue. They find him. He was stabbed and maybe an early Jekyll botch.
Back at Venetti's Greg and Sara continue to investigate. The back door has been opened recently. Nick texts Sarah and asks to find their John Doe on the wall of fame. He is, with a man in a lot of the other pictures. They find human blood back in the kitchen. They have found Jekyll's operating room. The blood belongs to the pianist and the John Doe.
The weird bundle he sent Ray seems to have clever clues that point to his next victim, dying painfully and slowly with a device inserted via the groin.
In his cell Haskell taunts his guard who tells him to shut the hell up. He keeps after him in other ways and tells him that he's been screwing with Ray and the others but he can make this cop a hero by giving him the real info about Jekyll. He cons him into coming closer so he'll shock him so he can fall to the ground, break his glasses, and pocket one of the pieces.
Hodges and Wendy tell Catherine that the meat is prosciutto; actually it's the more expensive proscuitto di Parma, which Hodges can tell by the way it has been cured. Hodges & Wendy are working very close together on the case, in more ways than one. Greg and Sara are investigating employees. They hit the streets to talk to those working in high end Italian restaurants where they'd use fancy prosciutto.
Nick and Ray head to one called Trattoria Dimasa. They meet Giovanni, aka "Papa," the owner. He did used to work at Venetti's. The cook is named Charlie and he also came from Venetti's. He's Papa son and they learn he wanted to be a doctor. Papa starts looking peakid and in pain. They realize he's the latest vic. Charlie realizes that they realize this at the same time and shoots the uniform with them and then shoots Nick who hits the deck.
Ray is hiding behind a table near Papa as Jekyll taunts him and says he doesn't care about going to jail or dying he just wants to watch his father die. Charlie taunts his father and screams at him about how his father killed his dreams of wanting to be a doctor. He killed all the others because they were "heroes" to his father. The father, in increasing agony, tearfully admits he guilted Charlie into dropping out of med school because he was lonely and needed his son after his wife (Charlie's mother) died.
Ray keeps talking- about his own drunk/abusive father and how he let him die on the living room floor --until Nick, who was hit but was only playing dead, can reach his gun and shoot Jekyll good and dead.
The gang visits Nick in the hospital and he's going to be A-okay as is Jekyll's dad. Nick asks if that story about Ray's dad was true. Nope, Ray says he performed an emergency tracheotomy on him only to watch him die of lung cancer two years later.
In the lab, Hodges tells Wendy that Nick will be all right because he asked them to bring him a pizza. Wendy asks Henry, who is in the room with them, if he'd like to join them. A sad look on his face, he declines.
Ray goes to say goodbye to Haskell and asks for a moment alone. Haskell is annoyed they killed Jekyll and taunts Ray about his daddy issues. As Ray says goodbye and turns away, Haskell reaches out from his cell and grabs him by the neck and stabs him repeatedly in the back with a shank. The last image of the season is Ray bleeding on the floor.
