This documentary in the "Unusual Suspects" series covers two very unusual suspects. The first is Gary Hurt, a high school football player who murdered a man for kicks, a crime he might have got away with if he hadn't boasted about it to all and sundry.
The second is that rarest of rare birds, a female serial killer in – you guessed it - California. Dana Sue Gray murdered three elderly women in 1994. Although her crimes were motivated purely by money, she appears to have found them a not unpleasurable experience. She also took along her 5 year old stepson on one of her outings.
Both cases included a number of false leads, and both left detective baffled. Gary Hurt was sentenced to life imprisonment, and will be eligible for parole in 2037; Gray will not have that privilege.
