Combined Review for 'Why there is No Sister's Day, Fiona's Turn and Mom Always Loved Me Best'
Fiona Wallice has grown on me after watching three seasons back-to-back in my Web Therapy Marathon. She does not treat her clients properly, she manipulates them, she uses them, she insults them, she gloats about herself and doesn't like when anything doesn't go her way and she also can be potentially dangerous as seen in the episodes I am reviewing. Lisa Kudrow herself can be wildly annoying and monotonous at times, but she also is unfazed by her rough edges and she tries to put in as much as she can in the episodes; the show itself has improved in the three seasons by making some characters recurrent thus giving more weight to the plot and continuity. Also the non-linear episodes unlike the first two seasons is a good change as seeing the same characters for three episodes one after the other can be boring.
Fiona and Shevaun Haig are Jane and Blanche Hudson of the 2010; Shevaun is Jane, a jealous, bitter and flustered working woman who was a bright and popular girl in her childhood, loved by all, hated by none. Fiona, her sister, is cold, selfish, manipulative, sadistic rich girl who has everything at her beck and call, lived through a rough childhood; there was a time when she was obese, unattached to both parents and very poor at school. Both hate each other but Shevaun loathes Fiona while Fiona is kinder since things are so good for her now. Fiona's therapy sessions face a problem when she is told by her husband Kip's party member to get her site accredited; otherwise it could lead to legal issues. She would have to undergo 15 hours worth sessions herself to qualify for the same and so takes her sister's help. Shevaun works at a pharmaceutical store and juggles her life between work, an artist husband who does not bring much income, children who have their own problems and a deranged mother who goes Paris Hilton in front of her children. She has to get all this frustration off her chest and so when Fiona contacts her, she is willing to help her provided she takes therapy from Shevaun. In her session, she does get everything off her chest and finds pleasure in sating all this. Fiona however has a surprise of her own for Shevaun.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus was in Seinfeld but I haven't seen that at all, so for me, she is another new actress, so I can judge her without any prejudice in my mind. She does play her character well but I wanted to be as spiteful as Bette Davis in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?; I wanted her to spit out all her grudge she had held for so much time of her life during her sessions, and Julia says her lines rather tamely. Lisa Kudrow is funny and her Fiona gets a sweet revenge in the end, though she was unpardonably cruel. I hope they bring back Julia after a while so that we know what really happened to her life after Lisa's blow to her.
Why there is No Sister's Day: 6.6 out of 10
Fiona's Turn: 7 out of 10
Mom Always Loved Me Best: 7 out of 10
Average Rating: 6.9 out of 10
