A Modern American Bandstand
19 November 2010 | by bkoganbingSee all my reviews

Shake It Up, the latest teen comedy to roll off the Assembly line of the Magic Kingdom, two young female teens achieve their ambition to become dancers on a Chicago based teen dance film. If this had been done back in the olden days when I was their age both Bella Thorne and Zendaya Coleman would have been competing for births on American Bandstand. I wouldn't be surprised if the ancient eternal teen Dick Clark doesn't make a guest appearance yet. There is in fact a Dick Clark like disc jockey played by R. Brandon Johnson presiding over all the young dancers.

The usual regulars to be found in Disney teen shows are present in the cast here. The kids will be doing the usual school thing and appearing on the dance show every week and the plots will revolve around both venues. Two of the characters are a pair of annoying exchange students, played by Caroline Sunshine and Kenton Duty. I am really surprised that this young man did not go for a name change, what he must have put up with in his personal life which will now be exponentially multiplied with the exposure only Disney show can bring.
