Coal For The Fire
Two things strike me about this movie. That's a lot, because movies about fire brigades turning out for fires were a commonplace of the era, and there were pretty much of a piece. The first striking point is the lightness of the vehicles. Fire trucks of the time had to carry a lot of men and equipment, from a boiler to provide water under pressure, to axes. Yet here, the carriages range as light as phaetons.
The other point is that almost all of the vehicles seem to carry advertisement. Was this a reflection of the actual situation in Cork, or was it product placement? And what about the placard for a local supplier of coal?
