Like most of the Kenyon & Mitchell movies, the title pretty much tells you what you're looking at. The details are that there are two boats, each has two oarsmen, and a third man, serving what would be called a coxswain in shell racing.
It has a simple composition and direction of movement as the boats come in from the right edge of the frame and move towards the lower left. Why this sort of movement became standard during this period is a mystery to me. The most likely explanation I can come up with is that so many people were doing it that way, for trains and skiing events, that it was perceived as natural and normal.
