It's almost impossible to not think in Saint Seiya while watching this, not only because it was made by the same creator of that series and because like the main character looks almost exactly like Seiya (The only difference is the color of his eyes), but also both works share many, many common elements.
There is a character who looks like Saori (And she even has a grandpa identical to Mitsumasa) a character who looks like Shun, another who looks like Shiryu... Granted, the original comics of Fuuma no Kojiro predate Saint Seiya, so if anything, the later could be considered like a more ambitious revision of the idea developed here.
And despite the many, many similarities, it's a fun series to watch. A shame it was never released in my country; personally I think this would have become a popular anime where I live, similar to Saint Seiya or B't X.
