BW attacks
SnoopyStyle28 October 2023
It's an official United States Civil Defense Film from the Federal Civil Defense Administration. The government is trying to deliver a placebo to the general public. It actually tries to define the issue and the scale of the problem. I'm not sure that it's done well or competently. Like I said, the government is trying to calm fears more than trying to inform. This is much more traditional and therefore less compelling than the granddaddy of these government films, Duck and Cover. Duck and Cover is the outlier and icon. This is the most average of average. At least, it gives me the term BW attacks.

Contaminated!

Someone must have seen this short subject from the Civil Defense department, because when I was a kid, that was something we called other children to insult them.

It's a one-reel film from the Civil Defense folks telling you what to do in the event of Biological Warfare -- or, as they term it here, 'BW', which makes me think of Body Odor, also known as BO. Early on, one guys says "What am I expected to do about it?" and the message comes through: be clean, and do what the nice government people tell you to do. And don't panic. Which is pretty much the guy's attitude.

It was an era in which the government spent a lot of time and money telling you not to panic, and that we could survive anything. I didn't believe it then, and I don't now.
