The PAtCO Sppeline was introduced in 1969 as an innovative, high speed commuter train with limited stops crossing the Delaware river via the Benjamin Franklin Bridege. While this service was highly successful it cannibalized other rail services which were never replaced.

SEPTA's Schuylkill Valley Metrorail Corridor concept was a promising solution to the I-76 Schuylkill Expressway traffic problem. But piece by piece it was curtailed until only a route to King of Prussia remained. It too has now been canceled.
