First version was created as a student project at the Art Institute of Philadelphia in 2000. It contained Green Day's "Good Riddance" and was entirely shot and edited on VHS. It was recognized by the school as the best work of the quarter in the Winter of 2000.
The subjects in the video is the family of the Director Paul Sanders. The old gentleman was Paul's grandfather (Paul Fasold) and the events that is talked about by his mother (Robin) were a part of Paul (Sanders) life growing up with grandfather at home.
The subject, Paul Fasold, died shortly after the original (student) video was turned in. It was played at his funeral.
The intentions of the video was to expand it to a feature length and explore other families in similar situations. It was also supposed to expand a bit more on the life of Paul Fasold - but with his passing and inferior technology was available for a 0 budget project, it was left go.
In 2010 an attempt to bring the project back into a full feature was attempted. This included re-shooting interviews in DV, scanned photos, a computer edit, and an expansion about the workings of home health care. Also Green Day's music was removed and easier licensed music was used in its place. It was submitted as a work in progress to "Philadelphia Film Festival" and "Sundance" in hopes to gain some interest and financing to complete. The project did not get accepted into either festival and was left to rest again.
