As you were delivering a package to the New Vegas strip, a strange man stops you and captures you, only for you to be shot in the head. He leaves you for dead and takes your package. You awaken in a clinic in the town of Goodsprings, where a doctor heals you and helps you get back on your feet. You have to defeat this strange man and have him pay for his crimes and find out what's in the package.. or betray the residents of Goodsprings and other small towns for their money and property... it's all up to you.

The design for the NCR Veteran Ranger armour (which is seen on the original box art and throughout a lot of promotional art) comes from a description from Fallout 1. The description is of a character "wearing a gas mask and brown leather duster". This in itself was a reference to an older game called "Wasteland" in which the player character is a Ranger in an apocalyptic environment. See more

Oh, alright. I'm thirty-ish. Well, late thirties. I was born... west... of here. I was an only child and spent most of my time with my mother. My father died when I was young and I never got over it. Oh! And I like medicine and reading books about failed pre-war socioeconomic policies. Right now I'm sure you're asking yourself, "Why hasn't some lucky man scooped this bachelor off his feet?" Like I said: I'm boring.
