Altar of Mortis

This is what I want from these shows. Unique storytelling that further the characters to the point where a perfect connection has been established. George Lucas was smart in creating this show as he filled in a lot of gaps that were not filled between his two last prequel films. These episodes do not only make Anakin's turn even more tragic but makes it more believable that he would be so easily consumed by the dark side. The characters are given so much great material to work with, and the action sequences as well as the animation, is at a real peak. The complex battle between the light and the dark is such a beautiful metaphor for the war in this show, and I love how the Force is being explored in a unique and groundbreaking way that makes it much more intriguing.

Shadow of the Dark Side

This continues the fantastic run of episodes as we see Anakin, Obi Wan and Ahsoka in peril on Mortis as The Son, an embodiment of the dark side attempts to turn apprentice against master and find his exit from his isolation on Mortis.

The Daughter shows Anakin a weapon that is stored away where neither she nor her brother, The Son, can get it. The weapon can stop The Son but once removed from its safe storage it must not be allowed to fall into The Son's hands.

The brilliant emotional and exciting face off between an infected Ahsoka and Anakin is just one great aspect of this excellent episode. Dark, thoughtful and very well written. The depth of storytelling, the strength of character building and the interest of lore development is enthralling.

This second half of Season 3 of Clone Wars is just amazing!

My rating: 10/10.

Nearly but....

Warning: Spoilers
So close to being the perfect episode as much as the previous, but they had to go a little to far. Yes I can accept that there is always a special weapon for the powerful ones;that's just the way it is, but that it was always on the planet and the son never took it to only ave himself in control, sorry that doesn't make sense. the rest of the story, the action, the directing, everything really was perfect; so much so that i could nearly forgive that idea enough still for a full 10/10 but then the son and daughter fought each other as the animals hey embody and that was too much. That is not star wars and it was too far.

However every other aspect was perfect. This is still in the top 10 clone wars episodes

Solid character progression but simplified light/darkness dynamic

This episode doesn't contain the internal struggle that made the last one so good, but it still does emphasize Anakin's undying love for Ahsoka as well as Obi-Wan's calming presence when he takes a backseat to allow someone else to take the lead. My disappointment in the episode is that we still don't get clear definitions for what constitutes the Light Side and the Dark Side of the Force. So far in the show, the Light Side is filled with the good guys and the Dark Side is filled with the bad guys. Many of the Light Side characters tend to be wooden, stoic, and lacking in feeling whereas the Dark Side characters tend to be impulsive, selfish, sociopathic, and murderous. I can't take any idea of "balance" seriously where one side of the balance just shouldn't exist. I don't believe Good needs Evil in order to exist. The less Evil in the world, the better. Any discussion of balance has to be about two concepts that both have relatively equal pros and cons.
