A worthy entrant in the reality food genre
safenoe16 November 2020
The Great Food Truck Race debuted in 2010 and I thought I'd be late in reviewing this on IMDb. But it happens that so far there's only been three user reviews, and all posted in 2020. I like the enthusiasm and passion of the contestants as they develop food truck cuisine to win! Let's have more seasons of The Great Food Truck Race!

Very Entertaining, Right Here, Right Now! Warning: Spoilers
We've watched every season and all were enjoyable. The show usually creates a level playing field for Food Truck teams to compete.

Unfortunately, season 15 was anything but a level playing field. Most episode contests were based in Southern California. The winner, Señoreata, was the only team from Southern California. Turns out, they had a loyal local following that pushed them to the top of every competition. I felt bad for the other teams who could never compete with the deck stacked against them.

The show used to travel the country. I understand the cost of doing this may not be viable any longer as ratings drop. But, if you insist on filming all episodes in one location, you can't allow locals to compete.

15 seasons and still kicking!
Chartreuse14 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
GFTR and Tyler Florence both have staying power or it wouldn't be "running" this long. Always, an enjoyable show for family viewing. Wish they would up the grand cash prize to 100K instead of 50K with inflation rising and all. The melodrama in season 15 is a little over the top!! Runaway, catty, and drag queen contestants, namely.

Best Reality Show To Rewatch
samnlm15 August 2020
I've watched Seasons 2 to 4 and 3 other seasons. I like Season 3; working all shifts (including the 1:00 am graveyard shift); traveling all across the country from California to the northeastern-most part of the US (where, if you make a wrong turn, you end up in Canada). If you'e binge watching, it's the best show (The Great Food Truck Race) from the food network. I've watched hundreds of tv shows and thousands of movies. It's a pretty great show.

Why is Las Vegas on the gold coast
seantseng24 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Las Vegas is in a completely different state than the Gold Coast so why did they go there. Why not San Francisco instead? Or is San Francisco not on the Gold Coast? Locations aside, this is an amazing show.

This WAS a good show
rmmil8 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This series is a lot like Tyler Florence himself. I started out liking him as a chef, but the more I saw his smug smile, the less I liked him. Like Tyler, The Great Food Truck Race has worn out it's welcome.

To start off, the series now betrays its original purpose. Originally, the contestants got 50k AND their food trucks, allowing them to start their new business with some cash. Now, I'm sure it was for budgetary reasons why they don't get the truck anymore, but now the contestants aren't necessarily even interested in starting their own food trucks, they just want the cash.

That's all well and good motivation to play, wanting money, it's a game show after all, but this "game show" mentality of the contestants means they don't even feature professional cooks anymore. Some of the contestants are very amateurish.

But all that would be fine, if it wasn't for how the game is now played. The stupid mini games the contestants play in this game used to be to teach them some vital food truck cooking skill, now it's just to make them look foolish and to waste time. Breaking keys out of a block of ice has nothing to do with cooking.

Oh, and to make it even more obvious this show has nothing to do with actual food competition now, they send the contestants to a ridiculous location like ALASKA IN THE WINTER. Food trucks simply do not operate in Alaska in the winter, why are these people being put thru this?

And regularly contestants are now given trucks that break down almost immediately, or catch on fire because they are dirty from the last time they were used and no one from production cleaned them. Seriously, why is this the contestants fault? The loser from episode 1 of season 13 literally lost because the truck was so dirty it caught fire. That dirt wasn't from this season, so that means the producers completely kneecapped those poor people who had obviously never run a food truck (or any other type of restaurant) before. And then Tyler smugly laughs and says "well that's why you always gotta clean heh heh". F you Tyler.

I think Tyler has become cynical enough to hate his own contestants and tortures them for his own amusement. That is the only explanation I have left as to why this series still exists.

The best team wins
judyc-6102131 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Congratulations Easy Vegan... They played the game with integrity and passion. The food looked delicious and seemed to enjoyed by all. They had a good time with all the people as well as the other food trucks. Great season with a little switch mixing pros with regular folks. Congratulations Easy Vegan and best of luck in your future. Good mix of pros and regular people running food trucks. The Great Food Truck Race is smart enough to know they have to keep it interesting and switch it around each season to keep the show interesting. A great Sunday night show and so happy Easy Vegan won and so happy I finally have enough characters to end and submit my review!!!!

Was a great show
sarakcella2 August 2023
It was a good show. Then apparently drama and rigging the game became more important-like with Khana. In previous seasons if a truck was down someone they had to stay that way, and if a truck made a bad decision then consequences came with it; was not only completely unfair but really sucky to promote that kind of behavior. Also, why just LA? The challenge was more exciting when it wasn't bound to the producer's home town. It meant that during the trips the team had to research the town, figure out local events and possible selling spots, along with looking at what was present and figure out how to make an appealing menu. This took real skill and determination. Please go for quality, real challenges, and kindness. The world is a hot mess enough as it is. Thanks!

Unfair business practices
laftrapper11 July 2022
Tyler Florence, I have watched every season of The Great Food Truck Race This season was the most disapointing allowing "Maybe Cheese Born With It" at Glamis, CA To sell food 90 minutes before anything is ready to serve, acruing tons of extra sales. It caused other trucks to panic and try to do the same. This gave them an unfair advantage as they worked longer then anyone else. When you call it on sales they can still serve up the extra 90 minutes worth of sales.

In past seasons the trucks did all the prep and then opened to sell. Where do you draw the line to make it a fair race?

They won that week by cheating as far as I am concerned!

Seasons have been going down hill...
greenrose-3589812 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The early seasons were awesome. I miss the cross-country seasons where the playing field was more level. The last two seasons seem more political driven with them being hosted only in Southern California and LA. It definitely feels like Tyler and the producers play favorites. I'm not interested in finishing the newest season now that all rules are out the window. Khana should not be allowed to fire a member of her team and then bring back a chef from a previous food truck. It's an extremely unfair advantage to other teams. How many other teams knew that was an option when they couldn't get along?

Alaska - seriously?
Y-and-R-Fan3 May 2021
I used to love GFTR - but this season is complete BS! I wouldn't assume many (if any) food trucks operate in WINTER in Alaska, so why send them there to do horrific tasks like cooking s'mores over an open fire. I'm done - will not be watching anymore episodes SMH.

Disappointed for the first time in 16 seasons
chrissyflath4 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
My husband and I faithfully watch The Great Food Truck race. We love how the teams put their lives and families on hold to take a chance on their future. Sure there is some drama each season; but we look past that and cheer on the teams. We were truly DISAPPOINTED for the first time that the producers allowed Khana to cheat this year. There is no other description but cheating. Not only was the firing of the original team member completely unprofessional( but brought back a previous team member. I have never written a comment about a show; but Food Network lost 2 viewers today. We wish the best to remaining team members; but we believe Khana should be disqualified.

Oops there goes another good show
RogerOThornhill19599 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
They lost me for good this week. The show has always had its ups and downs. One of its biggest issues has really been the obvious extremely low budget, which has gotten worse over the years. It is a season long competition show with only $50k as the prize. One episode of your average daytime gameshow has that. On top of that, the contestants are given trucks that are in poor condition and even break down regularly, sometimes on the very first episode of the season.

Some people complain about the various questionable contestants they have featured, although I have mostly been able to accept that. It is a TV show after all. I continued to watch because I love food shows, and some of the creativity on this show has been great over the years.

But I can't handle them just openly allowing a team to effectively cheat. They let a team fire a member and then inexplicably let them bring ANOTHER previous eliminated team's member on to replace the fired worker. In the past when a team lost a member (not by choice) they had to go on with only two. Forget for a moment that the "differences" with the previous cook were almost completely the fault of the truck's lead and her nitpicking micromanagement. Regardless of that they gave a team an open advantage by letting them hand pick someone new. The minute that was announced we turned it off. Don't even care what happens.

Show is do rigged ...
toncincin19 July 2022
Season 15 with the drag queen. RIDICULOUS. AND they keep being moved on! Their food was horrible the first episode - they should have gone home then. Then down the road - they park where there was no business ... along comes Tyler telling them WHERE to move to get business. Nope. That's playing favorites ... and giving a team recommendations that are not fair. It up to the food truck participants to find a good parking spot. So rigged in favor of the drag queens. Pretty much done with this show.

the great ?? race
meanolddrunk20 July 2022
Once a great show.... it just feels that is reduced/catering to uhhh ummmm lets just.say.a show for the 3.5 % of the population. I guess because..... 3.5% of people in hollywood just assume the rest of the 96.5% of us want to watch. Well you are wrong.

This season is really boring, no contestant is likable or relatable in any manner, the food they make lacks inspiration (except for team eso) i am 5 episodes in, and dont really care who win or loses' .

I would also like to see the.dd214 of all 3 of team members of." team southern pride"... all 3.....

Unacceptable Behaviour
bachmannda27 June 2022
For years I have watched TGFTR and anticipated watching it this year as well. However, after watching the first episode I was not impressed. The behavior of some of the contestants was nothing short of bizarre. Each week I checked in to see if it was improving. And it wasn't. Tonight I checked in only to see one of the contestants rubbing his/her? Butt up against another contestant's front! I am VERY disappointed. :(

What happened
edblackham19 June 2023
I watched five or six seasons of the show but last year was the worst by far but I kept it on my DVR until 10 minutes into the show this year. I knew they were gonna keep on going like they did last year. What was entertaining for the first few years was good food trucks making good food. That's not what's happening anymore. I really really really wanted this year to go back to the old formula but it didn't. So I will be taking it off of my list of things to watch this summer which is sad because I really enjoyed it the first few years. I wish they would go back to having food trucks selling and not who has the biggest social media, following or social background that you desire to continue on when you know there's no way they wouldn't without some creative producing.

They ruined a great show. Talented people lost and very untalented people lasted until the end. Won't watch another season of this. I guess I should have expected this in this day but very disappointing.
