Once believed to be a shoo-in for the Captain Marvel gig, TheWrap brings word today that Emily Carmichael – a director who has enjoyed notable success in the indie scene with a string of eye-catching shorts, including The Hunter and the Swan Discuss Their Meeting – has agreed terms to helm the Lumberjanes adaptation for 20th Century Fox.
First hatched as an eight-part limited series two years ago, Shannon Watters, Noelle Stevenson, Grace Ellis and Brooke Allen are the brains behind the “female version of The Goonies.” Since that humble debut, Lumberjanes has gone on to attract a strong and impassioned following – and that’s something Fox will be keen to foster as the comic book preps to jump onto the big screen.
In fact, TheWrap notes that Lumberjanes is considered a priority at the studio, which was first pitched via Kira Goldberg and Emma Watts. As the adaptation began to develop,...

This week, we shared an interview with Steven Spielberg in which he talks about a need for more women making big Hollywood movies. And now today we get news that he's found one. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he and his Jurassic World director, Colin Trevorrow, plus X-Men franchise writer/producer Simon Kinberg are joining together with Emily Carmichael for her feature debut. For Amblin Pictures, Carmichael will write and direct something called Powerhouse, which stems from a concept by Trevorrow. While nothing is known about its plot, we can assume that it will have a fantasy element if they've picked the filmmaker based on her award-winning shorts. One of them, 2011's The Hunter and the Swan Discuss Their Meeting, can be watched here for a taste of her...

"Jurassic World" filmmaker Colin Trevorrow is re-teaming with Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment for the family action film "Powerhouse".
Based on an original story by Trevorrow, rising filmmaker Emily Carmichael will write the script and direct the project, with Trevorrow and "X-Men" franchise producer Simon Kinberg both producing.
Carmichael created the comic strip "Whiz Kids," the animated web series "The Adventures of Ledo and Ix," the animated short "RPG Okc," and the live-action short "The Hunter and the Swan Discuss Their Meeting". Her name has even surfaced as a possible contender to direct "Captain Marvel" for Marvel Studios.

Emily Carmichael To Helm Family Action Flick Powerhouse; Steven Spielberg, Colin Trevorrow Producing
Up-and-coming director Emily Carmichael will write and direct family action movie Powerhouse, to be produced by Colin Trevorrow and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment.
Word comes by way of The Hollywood Reporter, confirming that Spielberg and Trevorrow – who steered Jurassic World into a global box office phenomenon in 2015 – will reteam for the adventure film, which has also drafted in the producing support of Simon Kinberg, a stalwart of Fox’s X-Men franchise and beyond.
No word yet on plot details for Carmichael’s feature film, though the fact that Amblin was so keen to work with the writer-director – after it lent Trevorrow a shot at the big time with 2012’s indie drama Safety Not Guaranteed – is a resounding vote of confidence for her vision. Indeed, Trevorrow himself heaped praise on Carmichael, believing her to be “the next great writer/director of the kind of movies I love. Her ability to...

I've never heard of indie filmmaker Emily Carmichael until today, but I have a feeling I'm going to be hearing about her a lot more in the years to come. THR reports that Hollywood heavy hitters Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Apocalypse) and Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) are teaming with Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment to produce a new family adventure movie called Powerhouse, which Carmichael will write and direct. The plot is being kept under wraps from the press, but the original idea for the film came from Trevorrow, and after he saw a short film Carmichael made called The Hunter and The Swan Discuss Their Meeting, he called her to the set of his current movie and they worked out the characters that will appear in this new movie.
“Emily Carmichael is the next great writer-director of the kind of movies I love,” said Trevorrow. "Her ability to find warmth...

Fantastic Fest Announces List Of Short Films which includes must sees ‘Cop Hard’ and ‘Infernal Nuns’
The complete list of short films screening at Fantastic Fest has been announced. Unfortunatly as with most short films, there isn’t too much known about many of these. I know Infernal Nuns recieved a lot of praise from various blogs after it screened at Fantasia and Cop Hard is based on the popular web series, but apart from that, I’m pretty much in the dark. What I do know is that sometimes the short films are more rewarding than some features. Remember folks, some of these directors may go on to do some very big things in the near future, so try and check them out. Here is the press release.
