- The winner of this season of America's Got Talent is announced.
- After a summers worth of auditions, judges buzzers, critiques and eliminations, one of the four finalists was finally set to be crowned the $1 million winner of Americas Got Talent. Of course, wed have to wade through two hours worth of filler to get there.
After the highlights from Tuesday nights performances, judge Piers Morgan said its been an unforgettable season with unmatched talent.
In an effort to draw the whole experience out a bit, each of the contestants was slated to perform a duet with one of their heroes.
Apparently, Prince Poppycocks only possible duet partner was Donna Summer. So, that happened.
Be our guest: The cast of Cirque du Soleils Beatles-based show, Love, performed. Later, for some reason that Im sure makes sense to someone, the Goo Goo Dolls came on stage and played for a bit. Toward the end of the night, Usher and crew paid a visit to perform his song, DJ Got Us Falling in Love.
Back to the duets, Michael Grimm was joined by one of his music heroes, Jewel. He seemed about as surprised by the pairing as we did. They sang Janis Joplins Me and Bobby McGee together, which was actually pretty cool, and surprising.
The next duet was pretty clever. From the announcement of the whole concept, the obvious question was: Who will Fighting Gravity perform with? Well, it was Lionel Richie and they did their act to his classic, Dancing on the Ceiling.
After a trip down Memory Lane, Nick Cannon joined Sonjetta (from the auditions), who performed her original song, Studio. (You might remember the catchy line, Ill be in my studio, studio). She was shocked, and nearly cried when T-Pain arrived on stage to finish the remix version of the song.
A montage of some of the wildest acts from this season followed.
The shows 10-year-old opera star, Jackie Evancho, got a chance to perform with Broadway legend Sarah Brightman to perform the classical crossover stars Time to Say Goodbye.
There was a montage of Howies attempts to get on Piers nerves throughout the season, both on and off screen. Then, in an homage to the great illusionists who performed this season, David Cooperfield gave a sampling of his work.
To the results: Nearly 90 minutes into the show, some results were announced. With the entire top four on the stage, Nick announced that the first act out of the running and taking fourth place was ... Prince Poppycock.
Piers said he did make a mistake buzzing Prince Poppycock on Tuesday, then joked he should have buzzed him 10 seconds earlier. He then told Poppycock that his performance Wednesday night with Donna Summer was exactly the type of thing he should be doing.
After a commercial break, we learned the next act out, and finishing in third place was ... Fighting Gravity.
Finally, it was down to two: Michael Grimm and Jackie Evancho. Which would win the $1 million grand prize? Howie said the right two acts were standing there. He asked Jackie if she was handling the big moment OK. She smiled and nodded.
Nick built up the drama, and revealed that the winner of the $1 million was ... Michael Grimm. He hugged Jackie and made sure she was alright. She smiled and said the experience had been amazing and she hoped to come back and sing on the show again. Michael was shocked, speechless and excited.
