"Von der Hingabe" or "About Devotion" is a German live action short film from 2002, so this one will soon have its 20th anniversary or maybe it happened already depending on when you read this review. It runs for under twelve minutes and was written and directed by Maike Höhne, an early career effort. A little over five years ago, she directed her firstg full feature film with Anneke Kim Sarnau in the cast at least. But she (Höhne) is far from known here and probably never will be. Also possible she will not direct anything else. Judging from the quality I saw in here, I would not be particularly disappointed. The lead actress is even less experienced than the director, has only been in one more movie and that was also by Höhne, so the two are probably friends. The male protagonist has been in more, but also hasn't been in a film for a long time. Actually, according to imdb, he acted in the mid-1970s already and I am kinda surprised. Maybe it was just somebody with the same name because back then he would have been really, really young. A boy. Anyway, back to this one here. There is an explicit sex scene at the very start and a little later we see a woman performing oral on a man, so your best shot to find this film is at 18+ websites. But you really wouldn't want to. You're not missing anything let me tell you. I see no artistic impact here whatsoever, unless we are maybe talking about the guy's back tattoos. Pretty cool brief South Park reference though and even cooler this show is still on almost two decades after this short film. Anyway, this one here has no language at all. Nobody is talking. Unless you count a song running in the background, but this absence of dialogue means you could watch the movie even if you don't speak a single word German. Like I said though, you shouldn't. It's a pointless relationship on and off story that adds nothing really. There is a moment when she makes him jealous by flirting/dancing with another guy. Charming. And the ending is supposed to be seen as a happy ending because the two are united again, but you do not really know it's gonna stay that way. At least she does not seem too stable. But yeah, I am wasting way too many thoughts already on this absolutely forgettable movie. Also a bit surprised that this is still relatively high and featured here on imdb (well, for a German-language short film) and not a film that has been completely forgotten. It's probably because of the sex (neither sensual, nor artistically relevant, just shocking for the sake of it, adds nothing of value to the story) because neither the actors nor the filmmaker are known today anymore, let alone famous. It can only be that because the movie also did not scare any awards recognition. At least according to imdb. I personally think it's best if the film turns into oblivion. Highly not recommended and the pretty positive word "Hingabe" or "devotion" should not be used in the context of this really bad film. Extremely pretentious too. Acts as if it does a lot with so little. Like for example the adorementioned absence of dialogues. Alright, you get the point. As for this movie, there is none. Stay away.
