The Edge of the Blade

There are basically three plot issues in this one. First of all is a book which is to be released which will be telling secrets within the political world. Kasper becomes obsessed with getting a copy because his own actions are paramount. The Prime Minister and her husband's marriage is potentially on the ropes. They take a brief vacation which proves to be disastrous. The kids are unhappy. Brgiette is unhappy and can't stay away from her duties. And the husband wants to do some job that is fulfilling. Finally, Kasper's mother shows up to announce that his father is dead. He is incensed that he has to do anything about it. In the end we find out about his intense animus.

Warning: Spoilers
Although this episode bogs down somewhat, it also reveals details that make Kasper's behavior more understandable. It turns out he's the victim of child abuse and his way of coping has been to abuse others.

Meanwhile Birgitte and Philip's relationship has been going back and forth. We knew something was seriously wrong when Philip said, "I'm not in the mood." THAT'S not a sentence said very often by men.

IMHO, the abuse scenes were overdone and I had to fast-forward through them.

The best part of this episode was Birgitte and Kasper found a way to get through his release of the receipts without it hurting the Prime Minister or her cabinet.

I gave this episode a 6 because the family scenes at the mansion and the sex abuse scenes seriously slowed down the pacing of the series.

Katrine gets high marks for supporting Kasper in his time of trouble.
