Selleck in charge
bkoganbing5 August 2016
A female patrol officer happens to stumble into a jewelry heist and is killed for her trouble, but she manages to put a bullet into one of the thieves. Her death mobilizes the whole department with Chief Tom Selleck taking personal command of the investigation.

The three robbers are Michael Aronov and David Lee Russek, a pair of mafia kids who fell very far from the family tree. Their partner in crime is James Biberi an Albanian gangster and one stone cold killer.

Selleck who takes the injury and death of all under his command personally is superb in this episode. One of his best acted scenes ever is the eulogy for the fallen cop.

Two others stand out. Joel Marsh Garland plays a city traffic inspector who gets involved in this thing because of gambling debts. He still can't really comprehend the enormity of what he's become involved in.

The other is Dominic Chianese who is a retired mafioso and he and Len Cariou have history. Chianese is father of one of the perpetrators and his scene with Cariou is memorable.

One of the best episodes I've seen from this series.

Blue Bloods : Officer Down ***1/2 Reminded of Perils of the Job
edwagreen16 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is devoted to a female officer being killed in the line of duty. When you see the 6 year old child she left behind, salute the coffin, your eyes will tear up. You will also think of that somber day in November of 1963 when John-John saluted his fallen dad, our president.

Tom Selleck gives a moving eulogy for the officer as we are reminded of the perils of the job.

Dad Len Cariou almost makes a lot of trouble by paying a visit to the retired mobster of the son who drove the car in the robbery that led to the officer's death.

Donnie Wahlberg again steals the show in his acting-especially in the scenes where he tells what usually happens to cop killers.

That family Sunday dinner ends the show and it's refreshing to see wonderful family values depicted here. Perhaps, our politicians could learn something.

Oh Henry

Please - less Henry. Of all the people they've written off the show (I mean, I love the show, but anyone associated with this family, you're going to die-just a heads up haha) - to NOT off Henry by now, you're killing ME. First, he has a hard time speaking between his voice & his buck teeth protruding into his lips. They'd have been MUCH better off & with "junior soprano" as Henry (since he makes a cameo in this episode).

But, here we are in year like 8 & Lenny carou is still running around screwing stuff up & giving silly "in my day" advice. One show with this would have been plenty. Then he has the episode where he and great granddaughter, Eddie Munster, sing & dance.

I literally changed the channel upon exiting the bathroom from being physically ill. I felt sooooo embarrassed for them. Yikes.

Keep up the good work!

I find myself really looking forward the next episode of "Blue Bloods". While this show is just getting started, and they only have aired four episodes. They are cranking out some really excellent work. The writing is very solid. I've heard Tom Selleck on Dennis Miller's show a couple of times. And he stated that while there are a lot of procedural cop shows out there like all the CSI type shows. But, he wanted to have a really good character driven show. And so far he's achieved that. The Reagan family is at the core of this show; but there are a number of characters who show real promise and I'm sure base on what Mr. Selek has said that this show will continue to develop these characters. This episode is an excellent one. Obviously, from the title it involves a shooting involving a police officer. The story surrounding this shooting and the investigation of it is really well done; especially since they only have about 44 minutes to develop the story in. There's an especially gut wrenching scene with the officers little boy, that's incredible. Nice work Mr. Sellek and Mr. Wahlberg.
