Exciting people, interesting stories and above all great views
rpfalta16 July 2022
I stumbled upon this series by accident and was surprised that the ratings were rather low. I assume, looking through the statistics, that younger people are interested in more commercial and simple-minded content. The series impresses by meeting exciting people who have diverse but always exciting stories to tell. In addition, the series offers a lot of great footage and comes in a well done mix of all the aforementioned elements. It never gets boring while watching. I was much more surprised at how many different aspects you can get out of one subject, like Death Valley (episode 1). Too bad there aren't more series like this. From me therefore clear 9 stars...

Serendipity. Tranquility.

Finally, got my mind back from a sea of UFO/ghost hunting/Big Foot sightings shows that floods today's TV.

This program gives me instant peace when I am trapped in continuous extreme heatwave this summer. The host and guests are genuine, not dramatic or sensational like other reality junk shows.

Camera/film crews are highly experienced in filming outdoor scenes such as when host is canoeing in the middle of a great lake or mountain hiking.

It is great to know that we can still count on PBS for quality programming like this one, when the rest of the world has gone crazy with mindless TikTok 'viral' videos all day. What a relief.

I watched this series based on the description. PBS has a winner with this one. Excellent and engaging host. Wonderful, scenic outdoors. Interesting, inspiring guests and interactions. I look forward to each new episode and hope the series runs for many years.

Delightfully Upbeat and Moving Americana

Thurston is such a charming and positive individual with a personality that shines through the interviews and adventures upon which he embarks. One comes away from viewing with an extensive list of new bucket list items. A love letter to America, touching, brilliant, and so refreshingly sincere. Thank you PBS!

Perspectives Old and New

I truly appreciate the variety of people Baratunde has included in the telling of the places he journies to. The people who have grown up in the area - generations of Americans to time immemorial of the first peoples; the new comers - of people moving from other states to Refugees from around the world; and the under represented in outdoor settings - women, black americans, disabled, and the incarcerated. All inspirational and a joy to see the love they all share of the great outdoors.

Baratunde lyrically verbalizes his own experiences. Great views of Americans living unusual lifestyles. I've seen all episodes so far and each one is delightful.

Baratunde Is What America Is All About

I've caught a few episodes randomly and each time I see how Baratunde lifts the spirits of those around him. This gift allows him to connect with others with good souls, and I expect some relocate what's been missing in all of us. Granted, some among us may be too bitter, malicious, mistrustful and fearful to reach. But the bulk of us can do so much more seeking peaceful and friendly interactions without getting upset over differences around the edges.

I recommend anyone have difficulty getting along in life, unable to say a simple hello or not caring if you're upsetting neighbors or family, imagining it's ok to intimidate strangers over superficial appearances and such: Watch a few of these episodes.

It's the people in the different places Baratunde goes to that you come away with finding just as interesting as the places he goes Proper Job!!!

Please please stop it!

Warning: Spoilers
Just watching PBS, America Outdoors w Baratunde Thurston. This episode started out fine. Bush pilot. Turquoise water. Then a third of the way in it featured a Biking POC group. This segued to a Arkansas town that in 1919 perpetrated a horrific massacre of black folk.

I was tuning in to watch a nature show. This kind of subterfuge feeds the right. Everything cannot be about race. The strategic stupidity of these efforts is astounding, disturbing and disheartening. Stop shoving ideologies in peoples faces. Stop focusing on the past. Stop making it an us vs. Them issue. How's about we just be humans for a while with common interests like say, nature?

I know from a great deal of experience working on DEI, the more you focus on the differences the more bias you create. Please, please stop it.
