Comedy Unlike Any Other
yayamunoz1924 October 2011
This was an awesome film that tells the story of the origins of a craft still used today. The comedy is timeless. You will learn so much from the people who invented and live it. The cast has the best stories to tell. John C. Brown and Bart Williams do an excellent job preserving the history of comedy. This award winning film will go on to do great things. If you are in the field of comedy or acting this is a definitely must see. It is a way to learn from the people who lived the art. Learn the history of the straight man and the funny man from the best. Some mild nudity. Not recommended for small children. If you have the chance to see it don't miss out!

Fabulously Entertaining and Historically Important
tracy-doyle16 May 2014
My S.O. and I (he's a ragtime pianist!) received our copy of LFC a couple days ago, and we've already watched it twice! Great work, guys... this film is informative and entertaining and has a lot of valuable historical information: clips, music and visuals as well as oral history. It is well- paced and engaging, and at the same time it tells an important story of the development of a particular brand of comedy in a crucible which will never exist again, and its evolution into television and improv. The conclusion is moving, and the emotional connection of this man to his craft and a long-passed entertainment venue drives home the sense of loss over the passing of true burlesque. Thanks for making such an important film.

Luck or Skill?

Warning: Spoilers
Catching Irv Benson on camera realizing that he is the last living of his breed is priceless. If the film makers planned this, they are brilliant. If it was pure luck, including it in the film is brilliant. This is a great story about one man's career, and it is compelling. Learning that so many comedians got their start in burlesque as entertainers in-between the headliners was a fascinating story. And then recognizing that the famous Johnny Carson was a big supporter of this kind of comedy and Irv Benson was an added bonus. Unfortunately, this film is difficult to catch, as it does not seem to be out on DVD and you need to look for it in your local festival.
