Because of where this special show was produced, series regular/announcer Lyle Waggoner's intro heard over the animated opening began with, "From Broadway in New York City...". Also, a special title card bumper with a caricature of Carol's charwoman next to the Statue of Liberty was created for use on this show.
This edition was taped at the Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York City, where Carol Burnett had made her name as a regular on The Garry Moore Show (1958), which she mentioned at the start of the show.
In the "George and Zelda" gladiator sketch, George acts surprised when Zelda shows up in his ancient Rome fantasy, and Zelda asks something like, "Were you expecting Jean Simmons?" At the height of her career in the 1950s, Jean Simmons appeared in three costume epics set in ancient Rome: Androcles and the Lion (1952), The Robe (1953), and Spartacus (1960).
The gauche, Southern characters Burnett and Korman portray in the Rolls Royce sketch with David Frost served as templates for what would later become two of the show's signature characters, Eunice and Ed Higgins.
